Syria, U.N. refugee agency discuss boosting cooperation on refugee returns

Geneva, June 26 (SANA)Minister of Emergency and Disaster ManagementRaed al-Salehmet withU.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salihin Geneva on Friday to discuss the Syrian government’s “Syria Without Camps” initiative and efforts to create the conditions for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation with the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) in support of Syria’s national priorities on refugee returns and post-conflict stabilization.

In a post on X, al-Saleh said the meeting carried special humanitarian significance because both sides had experienced displacement during their lives, making the discussion about more than politics and humanitarian issues, but also about hope and Syrians’ right to return home in safety and dignity.

The Minister expressed hope that the talks would help open new avenues for facilitating the return of Syrians to their homeland in a way that ensures security, stability, and dignity.

The Syrian government, in cooperation with international organizations, is working to support initiatives aimed at creating conditions for the safe, voluntary and dignified return of Syrian refugees and displaced people, while strengthening coordination with international partners to address the humanitarian challenges associated with the process.
