President Dr Patrick Herminie chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday 24th June, during which a number of policy memoranda were approved.
Cabinet approved the establishment of District Senior Citizens Committees in all districts of Seychelles as a structured platform to promote the participation, representation, and well-being of senior citizens within their communities. The Committees will support active and healthy ageing through social, cultural, educational, wellness, and community engagement activities, while strengthening communication between senior citizens.
Cabinet approved the re-launch of the Neighbourhood Recreational Activities (NRA) Programme across all districts and neighbourhood communities as a national initiative to strengthen community cohesion and youth development. The Programme will provide structured recreational, educational, cultural and community-based activities for children and youth aged 5–15 years, delivered through district and neighbourhood structures with support from Animateurs and key stakeholders.
Cabinet approved the launch and implementation of the Seychelles Young Community Leadership Programme (SYCLP) as a national initiative to develop leadership, civic responsibility, and community engagement among youth. This programme will culminate in an annual recognition scheme for outstanding young leaders.
In accordance with Article 66 (1) of the Constitution, Cabinet approved the introduction of a special Presidential distinction,Guardian of the Blue Horizon. This is a unique title that will be awarded to distinguished international dignitaries who have made important contributions to the advancing of sustainable development, the Blue Economy, environmental stewardship, climate resilience, international cooperation, and the wellbeing of future generations.
