President Jennifer Simons expressed her condolences for the devastating double earthquake during a brief telephone interview with Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez on Thursday, June 25, 2026. On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the South American country was hit by two consecutive major earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.2 to 7.5 on the Richter scale, causing a large number of deaths and more than 1,500 injuries, while several people are still missing.
In the conversation with interim President Rodríguez, President Simons said he was deeply affected by the news of the devastating earthquake. The double earthquake occurred near Morón, about 160 kilometers from the capital Caracas. Because the quakes occurred on a national holiday, many people were at home, which explains the enormous impact on densely populated areas. The epicenter of the first quake was 53 kilometers west of Puerto Cabello. The coastal state of La Guaira and the capital Caracas have been particularly hard hit.
