ITLA asume liderazgo académico del primer Centro de Excelencia en Inteligencia Artificial de la República Dominicana
Santo Domingo.- The Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) consolidates its role as the main academic reference in emerging technologies by assuming a key role in the training of specialized talent in the launch of the Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence of the Dominican Republic (CEIA-RD), a strategic initiative promoted by the Dominican Government to strengthen national capabilities in artificial intelligence, innovation, research and digital transformation.
The CEIA-RD arises as a result of the State vision promoted by President Luis Abinader, to position the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty, through a strategic alliance led by the Ministry of the Presidency (Minpre), the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Ogtic), the ITLA, NVIDIA and the Santo Domingo Cyber Park (PCSD), where this important center of technological innovation will be located.
As the leading academic institution of the project, ITLA will have the responsibility of developing specialized training programs, international certifications, teacher training and applied research initiatives that prepare the human talent required to promote the knowledge-based economy.
The rector of ITLA, Mr. Jimmy Rosario Bernard, highlighted that the Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence represents one of the most important projects for the technological future of the country.
"The CEIA-RD represents a fundamental pillar of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) and the National Innovation Policy 2030 promoted by President Luis Abinader. This will be a living and dynamic space where the country will not only adopt emerging technologies, but will also develop capabilities to create solutions based on artificial intelligence, strengthening our competitiveness and transforming strategic sectors such as education, health, industry and services. From the ITLA together with NVIDIA and allied institutions, We assume the commitment to train specialized talent, train teachers and prepare new generations to lead the knowledge economy. This initiative marks a milestone for the Dominican Republic and reaffirms our vision of consolidating ourselves as a regional benchmark in innovation and digital transformation," said Rosario Bernard.
The Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence will be based in the PCSD facilities, considered one of the main technological innovation ecosystems in the country. From this environment, academia, the public sector, the technology industry and entrepreneurs will converge, creating ideal conditions for the development of research, innovation projects and artificial intelligence solutions with national and regional impact.
The CEIA-RD will function as an advanced center for talent training, scientific research and the development of innovative solutions based on artificial intelligence, promoting collaboration between the State, academia, the private sector and international organizations.
As part of the initial progress of the project, the first national generation of teachers specialized in AI has already been launched, made up of professors from the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec), and the Pontifical Catholic University of Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), who receive specialized training through programs developed together with NVIDIA.
Likewise, the initiative contemplates the implementation of cutting-edge technological infrastructure, including the strengthening of advanced computing capabilities and the development of a National Artificial Intelligence Factory, elements that will contribute to promoting high-impact research and innovative applications in strategic sectors such as education, health, security, tourism, mobility and public services.
The participation of ITLA, together with the Ministry of the Presidency, Ogtic, NVIDIA and PCSD, reaffirms the commitment of these institutions to strengthening national technological capabilities, consolidating an innovation ecosystem capable of promoting talent training, applied research and the development of solutions based on artificial intelligence for the country's progress.
