HE The President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, together with the Minister of Education, María Paz Arzola, and the deputy Minister of Segpres, Constanza Castillo, led this Tuesday at the Palacio de La Moneda the presentation and signing of the bill that modifies the School Admission System (SAE), an initiative that seeks to give families a leading role in the educational choice of their children, recognize academic merit and strengthen the diversity of educational projects in the country. "Therefore, this project is so important, to recognize the child in his aptitudes, in his merit, and to find for each child the educational project that fulfills him, that makes him happy and that complements the education of his parents. This is achieved with the system proposed by the minister, which takes certain criteria, which protects priority students, protects children who have special educational needs, but also allows the establishment to value merit, to value the commitment of the parents with that educational project," said the President. In turn, he explained that "if any establishment does not wish to participate in this system, it will be able to continue participating in the system that we have until today. That is why we say that it is a system that opts for freedom, the freedom of the educational project, the freedom of parents to choose the educational project for their children." The new system will allow establishments with overdemand to consider objective and non-discriminatory criteria, such as adhesion to the educational project, participation in informative activities, academic performance from 7th grade onwards, territorial proximity and skills linked to specialization programs. The project maintains safeguards for inclusion, contemplating the reservation of places for priority students and for students with disabilities or permanent special educational needs. Likewise, it seeks to respond to the main criticisms that the current SAE has received, where a high proportion of vacancies in high-demand establishments are assigned by lottery. The initiative aims to strengthen the confidence of families in the admission process, promote the recognition of students' efforts and grant greater autonomy to educational communities. The ceremony at Montt Varas was attended by undersecretaries, senators, deputies and fifty representatives.
