Message from Prime Minister Luc Frieden on the occasion of the National Day 2026Publication date22.06.2026Message from Prime Minister Luc Frieden on the occasion of the National Day 2026.

Please find below the message from Prime Minister Luc Frieden on the occasion of the National Day.

We all have our own personal story.

Our own path of life, shaped by past experiences and future dreams.

But every one of these paths becomes part of a larger story – the story of our country.

One written by thousands and thousands of authors.

Because each of us helps shape our country – in our neighbourhoods, through voluntary work, in our professional lives.

That is why National Day is a good opportunity to reflect on what unites us all with all those people who we share our country with:

All of this matters so much more today than it has for a long time.

Because our world is undergoing a profound change.

Many people are concerned and rightly so:

And yet, it is precisely in moments like these that we realise what truly matters.

The community – here at home and in Europe – to which we belong.

The spirit of togetherness, and the respect for different opinions.

This has always been one of our strengths: our ability to reach out to one another, to listen and to find solutions together.

This is the approach that guides this Government's action in all areas.

And it is in the same spirit that we worked with the social partners in recent weeks, seeking to build bridges.

The Government has neither ignored nor downplayed their different perspectives and concerns.

We addressed them together – through dialogue and respect, with understanding and a willingness to listen.

Whatever challenges lie ahead, we have a choice.

It is up to us to decide how we, as a society, want to react.

With fear. Or with responsibility.

With pessimism. Or with the determination to move forward together.

And because the Luxembourg way is built on living together, it is also deeply European.

In a world marked by uncertainty, Luxembourg must stand together with its European partners.

The future is not predetermined. It is ours to shape.

We write our own future – as humans, as a country and as Europeans.

On this National Day, my wish is that we all join forces:

for a country that cooperates with its partners around the world.

We have many reasons to be proud.

National Day is an opportunity to celebrate the things we are proud of:

Proud of what the generations before us – and our own – have built.

Proud of what we can and want to become.

And proud, too, of our new Grand Duke Guillaume who, together with Grand Duchess Stéphanie, has helped strengthen the cohesion of our country and represented Luxembourg with grace and dignity abroad since the beginning of his reign.

And to all those who live and work in Luxembourg, I want to tell you that this National Day also belongs to you.

The Luxembourg we celebrate today is also built on your remarkable contribution to our country's economic, social and cultural development.

I am convinced that Luxembourg is ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Not because every problem has been solved.

But because I believe in the cohesion of our country and of Europe, and in our collective ability to meet those challenges.

And that is a reason, on this National Day, to look ahead with confidence.

Long live the Grand Ducal family!
