Washington, June 19 (SANA)U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpsaid on Friday he has askedIsraelto agree to aceasefireproposal inLebanon, according to an interview with NBC News.

Trump said he spoke with Israeli officials and urged them to approve a truce with Hezbollah, adding that he also called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “calm down and think rationally.”

He did not clarify whether he had spoken directly with Netanyahu.

Trump also said on Thursday that the U.S. was seeking a broad ceasefire across the Middle East, including Lebanon.

His remarks came as Israeli airstrikes intensified across Lebanon, which Lebanese authorities said killed 47 people and injured 97 others.
