Syria accepts Germany’s request to repatriate its citizen Michelmann
Damascus, June 20 (SANA)The SyrianMinistry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriatesannounced that it followed up the case of German nationalEva Maria Michelmannsince her identity and nationality were confirmed, in coordination with the relevant national authorities and the Embassy of the Federal Republic ofGermanyin Damascus, in order to ensure consular care in accordance with applicable procedures and relevant international obligations.
According to information available to the Syrian government, Michelmann had been present in areas of northeastern Syria and had participated alongside elements of the QSD forces during military operations in Raqqa province, the Ministry’s Media and Communications Department told SANA on Friday.
It added that she was detained together with a senior member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), following her illegal entry into Syrian territory and her prolonged stay outside areas under the control of the Syrian state.
The statement noted that the Foreign Ministry facilitated all requests submitted by the German side, including consular visits by representatives of the German Embassy, required medical examinations, and access to her condition, in line with the provisions of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
The Media and Communications Department stressed that the competent Syrian authorities, out of a keenness to maintain bilateral relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, have approved Germany’s request to repatriate the individual to her home country.
