Regional countries to hold Cairo meeting on developments

Cairo, June 19 (SANA)The foreign ministers ofEgypt,Saudi Arabia,TürkiyeandPakistanwill hold a meeting in Cairo on Sunday to discuss regional developments and enhance joint coordination, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced Friday.

According to a ministry statement cited by AFP, the ministers will discussregional developmentsand exchange views on issues related to peace, security and stability. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said the meeting would be followed by an “expanded talks session” and a press conference.

The meeting comes hours after Switzerland announced the indefinite postponement of direct talks between theUnited StatesandIran, which had been scheduled for Friday, amid complications over the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The memorandum aims to end the war that broke out on February 28, and provides for the reopening of theStrait of Hormuzto navigation and the start of 60-day negotiations to reach a final agreement covering Iran’s nuclear file. It also provides for the cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

The four ministers last met in April on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Türkiye, according to AFP.
