Hasakah, June 19 (SANA)Civil Defenseteams affiliated with the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in theRas al-Ayncountryside, in cooperation with local residents, extinguished fires that broke out in agricultural lands and abandoned houses in the village of Umm Ashbah in easternHasakahprovince.

Ziad Malki, head of Civil Defense in Ras al-Ayn, said in a statement on Friday that the teams received reports of fires spreading east of the village toward agricultural fields and residential structures.

He noted that emergency crews immediately mobilized and reached the site within 30 minutes.

Malki explained that losses were limited to several dozen olive and fig trees, in addition to a number of abandoned houses that were damaged by the flames. He added that the fires were successfully extinguished and that material losses remained partial and relatively minor.

According to Malki, the total area affected by the fires reached approximately 7,000 dunums, most of which consisted of already harvested land. Around 200 dunums of standing cereal crops sustained partial damage.

He stressed that firefighting teams succeeded in fully containing the fires and preventing their further spread.
