Berri says Lebanon committed to ceasefire if Israel fully complies
Beirut, June 19 (SANA)Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri reaffirmed on Thursday Lebanon’s position and Hezbollah militia’s commitment to a ceasefire, saying the commitment remains contingent on Israel’s full implementation of the agreement.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), Berri said in a statement that Lebanon andHezbollahremain committed to the ceasefire as long as Israel adheres to it fully and comprehensively.
His comments came in reference to remarks byU.S. President Donald Trumpregarding a ceasefire involving Israel,Lebanonand Hezbollah.
Berri said Lebanon’s position and Hezbollah’s commitment were intended to support the success of ongoing negotiations inSwitzerland, particularly with regard to the first provision of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding.
Earlier, Trump said the United States was seeking a full and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts in the Middle East, including Lebanon.
The United States andIranhave signed a memorandum of understanding addressing a number of outstanding issues between the two countries, including the stabilization of the cessation of military operations and ensuring freedom of navigation through theStrait of Hormuz.
The memorandum aims to end the conflict that began on Feb. 28 in the Middle East, provided negotiations are completed within a renewable 60-day period and Iran maintains its commitment not to seek nuclear weapons.
