State of the Digital Decade report: progress made, but gaps remain

The European Commission’s yearly State of the Digital Decade report assesses how the EU is progressing on its2030 digital transformation targets.

The 2026 report shows that the EU has made progress in key areas. However, structural gaps continue to hold back Europe’s digital transformation, and faster action will be needed to reach the 2030 targets.

The report provides clear recommendations for both the EU and Member States on how to close the remaining gaps, including by scaling up successful projects and mobilising investments.

The Commission is now calling on EU countries to update their national Digital Decade roadmaps with concrete measures and stronger alignment with the next long-term EU budget.

In 2027, the Commission will review the Digital Decade targets to reflect technological and policy developments and prepare the framework for beyond 2030.
