SNS garantiza asistencia médica gratuita para atletas y visitantes de Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026
Santo Domingo.-The National Health Service (SNS) led the reception of the torch of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, as a symbol of the Dominican Government's commitment to guarantee free and quality medical assistance to athletes, delegations, families and the public who will participate in the regional sports event.
The ceremony was held at the Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City, where the official mascot of the Games symbolically handed the torch to the executive director of the SNS, Dr. Julio Landrón, accompanied by directors of the hospital complex, medical staff, nurses, administrative collaborators and representatives of the organizing committee.
During the event, Landrón highlighted that it is the first time in history that a health city receives the torch of a Central American and Caribbean Games, a fact that he considered a recognition of the fundamental role that the public health system will play during the celebration of the event. More than 100 doctors from the Public Health Network participated in receiving the flame of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
Likewise, he assured that the Public Health Network is prepared to respond to any medical need that may arise during the Games, scheduled from July 24 to August 8, 2026.
“On behalf of the Dominican Government, the health system and the entire country, we receive this emblem that symbolizes the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. All delegations, their families and those who visit our country to enjoy these competitions will have free medical care, by order of President Luis Abinader,” he said.
The head of the SNS explained that the health centers located in the areas where the different sports competitions will take place will be integrated into a special health care plan, designed to guarantee a quick, efficient and timely response to athletes and visitors.
"It is a State commitment. The Dominican Republic is preparing to receive thousands of athletes and visitors from across the region, and from the National Health Service we are ready to provide the care they require during their stay in our country," he stated.
During the activity, the president of the Health City Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar, Dr. José Joaquín Puello, also participated, who highlighted the importance of the integration of the health system in the planning of the Games and highlighted the installed capacity of the hospital complex to respond to the medical needs demanded by the event.
Puello valued the support provided by President Luis Abinader and by the SNS to strengthen the response capacity of the hospitals that will be part of the health system for the games.
“Thank you for the unconditional support we have received so that these hospitals are fully prepared to receive the athletes, visitors and tourists who will arrive in the country starting next year,” he said.
Likewise, he assured that both competitors and foreign delegations will receive medical care of the highest quality from highly trained professionals.
"We can guarantee that our athletes and visitors will have a committed and highly qualified medical staff at their disposal. From the health sector we will also compete and I am sure that we will win our own gold medal for the excellence in the care we will offer," he said.
The renowned neurosurgeon highlighted that the preparation of the hospital network constitutes a fundamental piece for the success of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 and reaffirmed the commitment of the Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City to provide an efficient, humane and timely response during the development of the sporting event.
Among the authorities present were the director of the General Clinical Surgical Hospital Dr. José Joaquín Puello Herrera, doctor Ramón Féliz Jiménez; the director of the Maternal and Child Hospital Dr. Julio Manuel Rodríguez Grullón, doctor Onnes Gleyton Tapia Ramírez, and the director of the Cardio-Neuro-Ophthalmological and Transplant Center (Cecanot), doctor Cleto Rafael Ramírez Penso.
Also, the director of the Gastroenterology Center of the Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City, Dr. Genis Luis Féliz Ramírez; the director of the Dominican-Japanese Friendship Medical Education Center (Cemadoja), Dr. Glendis Azuna; the director of the burn unit, Dr. Eddy Bruno Vizcaino, and the director of the Metropolitan Regional Health Service (SRSM), Dr. Edisson Féliz Féliz.

Asimismo, aseguró que laRed Pública de Saludestá preparada pararesponder a cualquier necesidad médicaque pueda surgir durante los Juegos, programadosdel 24 de julio al 8 de agosto de 2026. “En nombre del Gobierno dominicano, del sistema de salud y de todo el país, recibimos este emblema que simboliza los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026. Todas las delegaciones, sus familiares y quienes visiten nuestro país para disfrutar de estas competencias contarán con atención médica gratuita, por disposición del presidente Luis Abinader”,expresó. El titular del SNS explicó que los centros de salud ubicados en las zonas donde se desarrollarán las distintas competencias deportivas estarán integrados a unplan especial de asistencia sanitaria,diseñado para garantizar una respuestarápida, eficiente y oportunaa atletas y visitantes. “Es un compromiso de Estado. República Dominicana se prepara para recibir a miles de atletas y visitantes de toda la región, y desde el Servicio Nacional de Salud estamos listos para brindar la atención que requieran durante su estadía en nuestro país”,manifestó. Durante la actividad, también participó el presidente de la Ciudad Sanitaria Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar,doctor José Joaquín Puello, quien destacó la importancia de la integración del sistema de salud en laplanificación de los Juegosy resaltó lacapacidad instalada del complejo hospitalariopara responder a las necesidades médicas que demande el evento. Puello valoró el respaldo brindado por elpresidente Luis Abinadery por el SNS para fortalecer lacapacidad de respuestade los hospitales que formarán parte del dispositivo sanitario de los juegos. “Gracias por el apoyo incondicional que hemos recibido para que estos hospitales estén completamente preparados para recibir a los atletas, visitantes y turistas que llegarán al país a partir del próximo año”,expresó. Asimismo, aseguró que tanto los competidores como las delegaciones extranjeras recibiránatención médica de la más alta calidadpor parte de profesionales altamente capacitados. “Podemos garantizar que nuestros atletas y visitantes tendrán a su disposición un personal médico comprometido y altamente calificado.
