EE. UU. y la República Dominicana firman un memorando de cooperación en energía nuclear civil
Washington.-The United States and the Dominican Republic signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in nuclear matters, with the objective of strengthening energy security and expanding economic ties between both countries.
The agreement was signed by the US Undersecretary of State, Christopher Landau, and the Dominican Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, as reported by the US Department of State in a statement.
“The signing of this memorandum reflects our mutual determination to develop a strong partnership in the civil nuclear field, strengthen energy security and expand economic cooperation, while promoting the highest standards of nuclear security, physical protection and non-proliferation,” the text details.
The State Department highlighted that these types of agreements allow for the promotion of diverse applications of nuclear technology, such as electricity generation or the production of materials for diagnosis and medical treatments.
The signing of the memorandum does not in itself imply the transfer of nuclear technology or materials, but rather establishes a framework for future cooperation between both countries in this area.
