Secretario general de la ONU agradece apoyo de República Dominicana y afirma que restablecer la seguridad en Haití es una prioridad absoluta
Santo Domingo.- The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, thanked President Luis Abinader this Wednesday for the support of the Dominican Republic to international efforts to restore security in Haiti, during a courtesy visit made at the National Palace, within the framework of his official visit to the neighboring country.
Guterres was received on the steps of the Government House by the ministers of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez.
At the conclusion of his meeting with the president and being approached by the national press, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, reiterated his gratitude for the cooperation of the Dominican Republic in international efforts aimed at restoring security in Haiti.
Likewise, he highlighted the support provided by the Dominican Government for the creation of conditions that allow the effective deployment of an international force destined to combat the armed gangs operating in Haiti, as well as the support offered to the United Nations mission that will accompany these efforts.
"We all want to restore security in Haiti. It is absolutely essential for Haiti and the region to restore security in Haiti, allowing for political evolution with elections and the integration of Haiti into the international community," said the UN Secretary General.
The UN Secretary General also reiterated his gratitude for the collaboration of the Dominican Republic in the initiatives promoted by the international organization to confront the Haitian crisis.
Guterres noted that there is a shared vision between the United Nations and the Dominican Republic on the need to prioritize strengthening actions against armed gangs and guaranteeing minimum levels of security that allow positive political evolution in Haiti.
"I want to deeply appreciate the cooperation of the Dominican Republic with all our efforts in this regard; that is, we share a vision that is a total priority at this moment, to reinforce the fight
against the gangs and to restore a minimum of security in Haiti that allows for positive political evolution.”
