Presidente Abinader reafirma posición del Gobierno de mantener la cesantía y llama al consenso en la reforma laboral
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader reiterated this Wednesday that the Government's position is to maintain layoffs within the framework of the reform of the Labor Code and highlighted the importance of the different sectors involved continuing the dialogue to reach agreements on the still pending aspects of the initiative.
The president explained that the defense of unemployment has been a constant position of the Executive Branch and pointed out that it is up to the labor sector, the business sector and the Government, in its role as facilitator, to move towards a consensus that allows the reform process to be concluded.
"The Government's position, as you know, is to maintain the unemployment. However, I think that there must be a consensus on the final details between the labor sector, the employer sector and the Government as a mediator," said President Abinader when asked by journalists prior to the launch of the National Contingency Plan for the 2026 Cyclone Season of the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
The head of state added that this position has been supported by government authorities and representatives of the National Congress.
“As the president of the Chamber of Deputies said, the Government's position is to maintain unemployment,” concluded the head of state.

Sin embargo, pienso que debe haber un consenso sobre los últimos detalles entre el sector laboral, el sector patronal y el Gobierno como mediador”, expresó el presidente Abinader al ser consultado por periodistas previo al acto de lanzamiento delPlan Nacional de Contingencia para la Temporada Ciclónica 2026del Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias(COE). El jefe de Estado agregó que esa postura ha sido respaldada por las autoridades gubernamentales y por representantes del Congreso Nacional. “Como lo dijo el presidente de la Cámara de Diputados, la posición del Gobierno es mantener la cesantía”,concluyó el jefe de Estado.
