Pakistan, China welcome U.S.-Iran deal, highlight Strait of Hormuz reopening

Islamabad, June 17 (SANA)PakistanandChinaon Tuesday welcomed the recent agreement between theUnited StatesandIran, describing it as a positive step toward reducing regional tensions and promoting long-term stability.

During a phone call, Pakistani Foreign MinisterMohammad Ishaq Darand Chinese Foreign MinisterWang Yidiscussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, with particular focus on the situation in the Middle East, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

Both sides stressed the importance of implementing the understandings reached between Washington and Tehran and maintaining diplomatic engagement to ensure a peaceful resolution of outstanding issues.

The ministers also highlighted the strategic significance of reopening theStrait of Hormuzto international shipping, noting its importance for global energy supplies, trade flows and economic stability.

Wang praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and mediation initiatives, saying they had helped facilitate communication between Tehran and Washington and contributed to broader efforts aimed at strengthening regional and international security.

Dar, in turn, expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for dialogue and diplomacy, highlighting Beijing’s role in promoting regional stability and advancing joint initiatives aimed at easing tensions.

The conversation followed an announcement by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement providing for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations, with a formal signing ceremony expected to take place in Switzerland on Friday.
