INPOSDOM y Comité Organizador presentan emisión postal oficial dedicada a los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM), in coordination with the Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, presented the official commemorative postal issue dedicated to the historic regional sports event, which will celebrate its centenary this year and is considered the oldest regional multi-sport competition in the world.
The broadcast is part of the institutional contributions of the Dominican Republic to this historic celebration, which will take place from July 24 to August 8, 2026 and will bring together thousands of athletes from Central America and the Caribbean in Dominican territory.
During the launch ceremony, the general director of INPOSDOM, Erick Guzmán, highlighted that philately constitutes an invaluable tool to preserve the historical memory of nations and project to the world the events that mark milestones in the lives of people. "With this postal issue we pay tribute to the spirit of improvement, discipline, excellence and fraternity that these Games represent. Likewise, we reaffirm the commitment of the Dominican State to support initiatives that promote sport as a tool for development, integration regional and national pride,” said Guzmán.
For his part, journalist José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee, the entity responsible for organizing the Games, valued the INPOSDOM initiative, considering that the postal issue constitutes a historical legacy of the centenary of the Central American and Caribbean Games and a tangible expression of the values that have distinguished this competition for a century.
"This issue transcends the sports field to become a symbol of unity, identity and brotherhood between the peoples of Central America and the Caribbean. Postage stamps have the ability to preserve the collective memory of our nations and project to the world the meaning of the Games that, for one hundred years, have served as a bridge for regional integration and human development through sport," said Monegro.
Likewise, Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of Centro Caribe Sports, thanked INPOSDOM for dedicating this postal issue, highlighting that the initiative represents a valuable recognition of the historical legacy of a competition that for one hundred years has served as a stage for integration, friendship and development for the countries of Central America and the Caribbean.
Likewise, he valued the contribution of philately as a means to preserve events of national and international significance, ensuring that this broadcast will remain a permanent testimony of an edition that will mark a memorable chapter for Dominican sports.
Present during the cancellation and official signing of the put into circulation were Mr. Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee; the architect Alejandro Vignieri, from the Dominican Philatelic Commission; members of said cultural entity, as well as officials and collaborators of INPOSDOM.
Postal issue no. 02-26 consists of 18,000 copies, distributed in 4,500 blocks of four stamps and 2,000 souvenirs in two designs, with face values of RD 60.00 for the stamps and RD 150.00 for the souvenirs.
The pieces were printed by Editora de Formas on tropicalized gummed paper and have an artistic composition by architect Alejandro Vignieri.
The designs highlight sports disciplines included in the official Santo Domingo 2026 competition program, reflecting the diversity and richness of the regional sports movement, as well as the commitment of the Dominican Republic to promoting the values of sports and competitive excellence.
About the Santo Domingo 2026 Games
The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will have the participation of approximately 6,225 athletes from 37 countries, who will compete in 40 sports and 56 disciplines, competing for a total of 1,555 medals.
The celebration will turn Santo Domingo into the main sports venue in the region for more than two weeks of competitions.
Colíes is the official mascot inspired by the barrancolí (Todus subulatus), a bird endemic to the island of Hispaniola, which symbolizes the authenticity, resilience and hospitality of the Dominican people. Likewise, the official emblem and motto reflect the geographical and cultural union of Central America and the Caribbean, strengthening the values of integration, solidarity and brotherhood among the participating nations.
This postal issue joins the national efforts to promote and project the celebration of Santo Domingo 2026, leaving a permanent mark of this historical event in the philatelic heritage of the Dominican Republic and the entire region.
