Presidente Abinader anuncia que RD será sede por segunda vez del Diálogo Regional del World Governments Summit para América Latina y el Caribe
Santo Domingo.–President Luis Abinadera announced this Tuesday that the Dominican Republic will once again become the center of government innovation and digital transformation by being confirmed as the venue for the second regional edition of the World Government Summit (WGS), which will be held on November 20 and 21, 2026, in Cap Cana.
During a meeting held in the Ambassadors Room of the National Palace, the president stated that the meeting will return to the country and the number of participants is expected to double, consolidating the Dominican Republic as a regional reference in terms of innovation and governmental advances, with the presence of presidents and senior officials of the governments of the region.
Likewise, he explained that this is the second time that this important meeting is held outside of Dubai, after its first international edition was held last year, in Punta Cana.
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, also participated in the meeting, reporting that in the coming days the process of invitations and socialization of this important regional event will begin, which will bring together presidents, ministers, senior officials and government representatives from Central America, the Caribbean and other nations in the region.
Commitment demonstrated by the Dominican Republic in government innovation
For his part, the director general of the World Government Summit Organization, Mohamed Al Sharhan, who was accompanied by H.E. Mohamed Bin Taliah -Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs, highlighted that the commitment demonstrated by the Dominican Republic in terms of government innovation made the country a natural choice to host the event again. He highlighted that this initiative strengthens the strategic alliance between the Dominican Republic and the United Arab Emirates, and positions the nation as a gateway to promote regional cooperation and the exchange of knowledge between both parties.
Al Sharhan, who spoke in English and translated by Juan Marco Malagón, Chief of Staff of Mivhed, expressed his pride in holding the second edition of the WGS-LAC Regional Dialogue in the Dominican Republic and pointed out that the country's election as host for the second consecutive time reflects the confidence of the World Summit of Governments Organization in the leadership, vision of the future and progress driven by the management of President Luis Abinader.
He indicated that this meeting is part of the agreement reached between the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and President Luis Abinader to hold the World Government Summit Regional Dialogue annually in the Dominican Republic, consolidating the country as a regional reference center for the exchange of ideas, innovation and best government practices.
Al Sharhan highlighted that this space strengthens the ties of cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Latin America, positioning the Dominican Republic as a strategic gateway to expand collaboration, share knowledge and build governments that are more efficient, innovative and prepared to respond to the needs of their citizens.
In conclusion, he highlighted that during the edition of the World Government Summit held in February in Dubai, around 45 heads of state and more than 600 ministers participated, who held a broad regional and global dialogue on the main challenges facing humanity and the innovative solutions that governments must promote in the face of future challenges.
Regional Dialogue of the World Governments Summit (WGS) for Latin America and the Caribbean
The Dominican Republic will host the Regional Dialogue of the World Governments Summit (WGS) for Latin America and the Caribbean on November 20 and 21, 2026, which will be held at The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort, in Cap Cana.
With this second edition, the Dominican Republic ratifies the leadership assumed in 2025, when it became the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to host this dialogue outside of the United Arab Emirates.
The event will bring together nearly 400 participants, including heads of state and government, ministers, representatives of international organizations, experts and business leaders, around the agenda for the future of governments.
The program includes plenary sessions, work tables, thematic majlises, a high-level ministerial dialogue and an official dinner, articulated around axes such as the future of governance, trade and the global economy, technology, tourism, sustainable development and public-private alliances.
The 2025 edition brought together 22 countries, 29 speakers and 59 companies in 14 sessions and 10 strategic commitments. On a global scale, throughout its history the World Governments Summit has brought together more than 160 countries, 145 heads of State and Government and 3,500 speakers, consolidating itself as one of the platforms for government dialogue of greatest international relevance.
The organization of the meeting in the country is in charge of the Center for Analysis for Public Policies (CAPP), in coordination with the international team of the WGS and with the support of the Dominican Government. The event will integrate elements of Dominican identity and culture, offering participants a world-class experience with a national seal.
About the World Governments Summit
The World Governments Summit is a global, neutral, non-profit organization dedicated to shaping the future of governments. Based in Dubai, it explores the agenda of the next generation of governments and the harnessing of innovation and technology to solve humanity's challenges. Its objective is to promote discussions and research on matters of national and international interest, through public policy proposals, training of leaders and holding forums, seminars and publications on economic, political and social issues.
President Luis Abinader was accompanied by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista, and the Administrative and Financial Vice Minister, Elvis López.
At the meeting, Jean Marco Pumarol served as translator, facilitating communication and the exchange of ideas between Dominican authorities and representatives of the World Government Summit Organization.
