Presidente Abinader declara de utilidad pública terrenos del Monumento Natural Cuevas del Pomier para fortalecer su protección ambiental y cultural
Santo Domingo.-President Luis Abinader issued Decree 393-26, by which he declares several lands located within the Cuevas de Borbón or Pomier Anthropological Reserve Natural Monument of public utility and social interest, a measure aimed at strengthening the conservation of one of the most important natural, archaeological and cultural heritages of the Dominican Republic.
The decision will allow expanding the protection, monitoring, environmental restoration and preservation actions of this protected area located in the San Cristóbal province, guaranteeing the sustainability of its natural resources and its historical legacy for present and future generations.
The initiative reaffirms the Government's commitment to the defense of national heritage and the protection of spaces of high ecological and scientific value, in compliance with the State's responsibility to preserve its environmental and cultural riches.
To make this comprehensive protection possible, the decree contemplates the acquisition of the land located within plot number 405 of cadastral district number 02 of the San Cristóbal municipality, through the procedures established by law and with resources from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
The provision instructs the corresponding institutions, including the Ministry of the Environment, the General Directorate of National Assets, the State Attorney and the Registry of Titles, to carry out the administrative and legal actions necessary for the execution of the measure.
The decree establishes that, if an agreement is not reached with the owners on the value of the land, the Ministry of the Environment will carry out the corresponding legal procedures for its acquisition, in accordance with the law and with funds from the institution. In addition, it provides for the necessary administrative actions of the competent entities and is based on Law 492 of 1969 and other provisions that protect the Cuevas del Pomier as national heritage.
Decree number 393-26 was issued by President Luis Abinader on June 15, 2026, as part of the Government's actions aimed at strengthening the protection of the Cuevas de Borbón or Pomier Anthropological Reserve Natural Monument, ensuring the protection of a unique archaeological treasure in the Caribbean and strengthening the country's commitment to environmental conservation and the protection of its historical identity.

La disposición instruye a las instituciones correspondientes, incluyendo elMinisterio de Medio Ambiente, la Dirección General de Bienes Nacionales, el Abogado del Estado y el Registro de Títulos,a realizar las acciones administrativas y legales necesarias para la ejecución de la medida. El decreto establece que, de no lograrse un acuerdo con los propietarios sobre el valor de los terrenos, el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente realizará losprocedimientos legales correspondientespara su adquisición,conforme a la leyy con fondos de la institución. Además, dispone las acciones administrativas necesarias de las entidades competentes y se fundamenta en laLey 492 de 1969y demás disposiciones que protegen las Cuevas del Pomier comopatrimonio nacional. El Decreto número 393-26 fue emitido por elpresidente Luis Abinader el 15 de junio de 2026, como parte de las acciones del Gobierno orientadas afortalecer la proteccióndel Monumento Natural Reserva Antropológica Cuevas de Borbón o del Pomier, asegurando la protección de untesoro arqueológico único en el Caribey fortaleciendo el compromiso del país con laconservación ambientaly la protección de su identidad histórica.
