Turismo aéreo en la República Dominicana crece más de 10 % en mayo y alcanza récord de visitantes
Santo Domingo.-Air tourism maintains its sustainable growth, reaching 4,147,025 in tourist arrivals in the first five months of this year, which represents a growth of 10.8% compared to the same period in 2025, revealed Minister David Collado.
In his traditional press conference, where he announces the behavior of tourism and its impact on the economy, Collado reported that so far this year the country has received 5,641,659 visitors, which represents a growth of 8% compared to 2025. He reported that in these five months the country received 1,494,634 cruise passengers.
Collado also said that in May the country received tourists by air, 744,045 for an increase of 10.4% compared to the same month in 2025, 9.8% compared to 2024, 19.7% compared to 2023 and 40.9% compared to 2019. He reported that in May, 139,881 cruise passengers arrived in the country by sea. 4,147,025 by air and 1,494,634 by sea give us the large number of visitors in these five months: 5,641,659. Another record in number of arrivals,” highlighted Minister Collado.
The sending countries that contributed the most visitors in May were the United States with 41%, Canada with 21%, Argentina 7%, Colombia 5% and France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Chile and Peru with 2%. The airports that received the most tourists in the first five months of this year were Punta Cana with 66%, Las Américas with 19%, Cibao with 10%, Puerto Plata with 5% and 1% in La Romana and Samaná.
In May, the terminals that received the most flights were Punta Cana with 54%, Las Américas with 28%, Cibao with 11%, Puerto Plata with 3%, Higüero with 2% and La Romana and Samaná with 1%. The official also indicated that in the January-April period, hotel occupancy exceeded 79%, while the level of tourist satisfaction was 4.5%, in a 5-point measurement. Due to this level of satisfaction, 93% of visitors say they would return and 60% would recommend the destination.
