Syria, Saudi Arabia discuss transport cooperation, railway link

Damascus, June 15 (SANA)Syrian Transport MinisterYarub Badrmet with Syria’s charge d’affaires to Saudi Arabia, Mohsen Mahbash, to discuss mechanisms for following up on joint files with Saudi Arabia’s General Transport Authority to support infrastructure projects and develop Syria’s transport system, the ministry said Monday.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, addressed ways to benefit fromSaudi Arabia‘s advanced experience in road infrastructure to support the ministry’s plans to improve and develop Syria’s road network. The two sides also discussed priority areas for cooperation and prepared for joint work programs.

The officials discussed follow-up on a proposed railway link between Syria and Saudi Arabia as part of a regional corridor extending throughJordanandTürkiye, aimed at enhancing integration between regional transport networks and supporting trade and logistics services.

The meeting also covered preparations for the upcoming visit of Saudi Transport and Logistics Minister Eng. Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser to Damascus in mid-July.

Badr stressed the importance of continued coordination and communication through official channels with the Saudi side to enhance cooperation in road and rail transport and technical expertise exchange, reflecting positively on the development of the transport sector in both countries.

The meeting was attended by the ministry’s international cooperation director, the minister’s office director, the government communications director and representatives from the Foreign Ministry.

The talks follow discussions between Badr and al-Jasser on the sidelines of the second Transport Ministers Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul on February 14, where both sides agreed to follow up on joint technical files and activate cooperation mechanisms, particularly in road transport.
