Gobierno impulsa electrificación rural en Bahoruco con inversiones por RD 48.5 millones
Bahoruco.-The Dominican Government continues to expand access to electrical energy in rural communities, with investments that exceed RD 48.5 million in the Bahoruco province.
As part of this effort, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, led the inauguration of the Rehabilitation and Extension of Electrical Networks project in the municipal district of Uvilla, El Jobo section, and the José Francisco Peña Gómez neighborhood, municipality of Tamayo, a work carried out with an investment of RD 19.5 million that directly benefits 375 homes in different communities in the district.
During the event, the minister also announced the start of new extensions of electrical networks in the Mena Abajo and Vuelta Grande communities, with an additional investment of RD 29 million, as well as the installation of 250 lights and the lifting of 36 electrification projects that will impact various municipalities and municipal districts of the province between this year and 2027.
The work was executed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, through the Directorate of Rural and Suburban Electrification (Ders), as part of the national plan promoted by the Government to close gaps in access to electricity and promote the economic and social development of the most vulnerable communities.
During his speech, Santos highlighted that rural electrification represents much more than the installation of energy infrastructure, since it constitutes a tool for social transformation capable of generating opportunities, improving security and raising the quality of life of families.
"Electricity not only lights up light bulbs; it also connects families, generates well-being and gives back opportunities that we often take for granted. Therefore, today we are not only inaugurating poles, cables or transformers. Today we are providing dignity, security and better living conditions for our people," he expressed.
Minister Santos announced that during the period 2026-2027, important electrification projects will continue to be developed in that province.
"In the municipality of Tamayo we have planned new extensions of electrical networks in Mena Abajo and in the community of Vuelta Grande, with an investment of more than 29 million pesos. Likewise, the network extension works are advancing in Alto de las Flores, which are already underway," he said.
Likewise, he assured that they are working on the development of 36 additional projects for Bahoruco, including 19 for network electrification, 11 for the installation of lighting and six for photovoltaic systems that will benefit communities in Tamayo, Villa Jaragua, Los Ríos, Neiba, El Palmar, Monserrat, Clavellinas, Santana, Santa Bárbara and other sectors of the province.
“These initiatives reflect a clear vision: bring energy where it is still needed, strengthen the security of our communities, boost economic activity and create better conditions for the development of families,” he noted.
Likewise, the head of Energy and Mines highlighted that each of the projects are part of a public policy aimed at guaranteeing that energy development reaches every corner of the country, regardless of its geographical location, strengthening social inclusion and creating favorable conditions for entrepreneurship, education and productive growth in rural communities.

Por eso, hoy no estamos inaugurando solamente postes, cables o transformadores. Hoy estamos entregando dignidad, seguridad y mejores condiciones de vida para nuestra gente”,expresó. El ministro Santos anunció que durante el período2026-2027se continuará desarrollando importantes proyectos de electrificación en esa provincia. “En el municipio de Tamayo tenemos programadas nuevas extensiones de redes eléctricas en Mena Abajo y en la comunidad de Vuelta Grande, con una inversión superior a los 29 millones de pesos. Asimismo, avanzan los trabajos de extensión de redes en Alto de las Flores, que ya se encuentran en ejecución”,precisó. Asimismo, aseguró que se trabaja en el levantamiento de36 proyectos adicionalespara Bahoruco, entre ellos 19 de electrificación de redes, 11 de instalación de luminarias y seis de sistemas fotovoltaicos que beneficiarán comunidades deTamayo, Villa Jaragua, Los Ríos, Neiba, El Palmar, Monserrat, Clavellinas, Santana, Santa Bárbaray otros sectores de la provincia. “Estas iniciativas reflejan una visión clara: llevar energía donde aún hace falta, fortalecer la seguridad de nuestras comunidades, impulsar la actividad económica y crear mejores condiciones para el desarrollo de las familias”,puntualizó.
