Syria stress importance of regional cooperation, reconstruction support at UfM meeting

Barcelona, June 14 (SANA)Syria stressed the importance of enhancing regional cooperation, supporting reconstruction efforts, and creating suitable conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland during the Senior Officials Meeting of theUnion for the Mediterraneanheld in the Spanish city ofBarcelona.

The Syrian Embassy in Brussels said in a post on X, Sunday that Chargé d’Affaires Abdullatif Dabbagh headed Syria’s delegation to the meeting, with the participation of advisor Bahia Mardini.

In his remarks, Ambassador Dabbagh expressed Syria’s aspiration to reintegrate into frameworks of constructive cooperation within the Union for the Mediterranean, contributing to enhanced stability, development, and shared prosperity in the region.

He also thanked countries that hosted Syrian refugees over the past years, stressing the importance of supporting their safe, voluntary, and dignified return to their homeland, working to close the camps file, and addressing the root causes of migration.

Dabbagh underlined the need to improve access to basic services, provide job opportunities and livelihoods, and support reconstruction efforts, enabling Syrians to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
