Qatar Energy’s QC-Max vessel set to become world’s largest LNG carrier

Doha, June 14 (SANA)Chinese shipbuilderHudong-Zhonghuahas begun construction of the first QC-Max liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier forQatar Energy, featuring a record cargo capacity of 271,000 cubic meters and set to become the largest LNG carrier in the world.

According to CNBC, the vessel is part of a broader contract covering 24 QC-Max carriers. The project supports Qatar Energy’s strategy to expand its fleet to 128 vessels, strengthening logistics for the North Field expansion and enhancing its ability to meet growing global demand forLNG.

The first carrier is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2028. The estimated construction cost of each vessel is about $333 million.

QC-Max carriers incorporate advanced and environmentally conscious technologies, including dual-fuel propulsion systems, gas reliquefaction technology, and engineering solutions designed to reduce hull resistance and improve energy efficiency during operations.

The vessels also feature modern systems aimed at minimizing natural gas losses and reducing carbon emissions, in line with international environmental standards and efforts to support more sustainable LNG transportation.
