Spend Sunday attending the 10th KOPROJAYA Annual General Meeting in Putrajaya. I look at the cooperative movement from a broader angle than just profits or dividend returns. The fact is that cooperatives bring the big idea of building the economic strength of the people through wider participation and fairer sharing of benefits, compared to wealth that is only monopolized by a few parties with capital strength and influence. From there the debate about social justice and social democracy was born. Because true democracy is not just about seizing power, but the best democracy is opening up space for the people to participate in economic life and enjoy the results of national development. That is why Bung Hatta in Indonesia sees cooperatives as an important vehicle to achieve economic equality and social justice. He believes that the future of an independent Indonesia cannot be built on the dominance of wealth by certain groups, but must be based on the wider participation of the people in the economy. In India, Dr Ambedkar reminded that democracy is meaningless if it fails to dismantle the oppressive system and maintain the gap that separates society. A true democracy must give space to the marginalized groups to also enjoy the opportunities and progress that the country has experienced. The same principle has long been reflected in Islamic teachings through the spirit of ta'awun or cooperation in goodness. It teaches that weak groups should not be left to face challenges alone, but instead need to gather their strength to be able to stand firmer and build a better future together. Thus, I see cooperatives as one of the important instruments of social democracy. It widens participation, empowers the people and ensures that the benefits of growth do not just flow to the few, but are enjoyed by as many members of society as possible. Within the framework of MADANI, we want to generate growth, attract investment and explore new areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation and energy transition. But this progress only means when the results can be distributed fairly and felt by the most people. Justice does not mean giving the same to everyone. Justice means ensuring that every citizen gets an opportunity according to their needs and circumstances. This is what is meant by social justice and fair wal ihsan, ensuring that the progress of the country upholds human dignity and brings prosperity to all the people. #MalaysiaMADANI #MADANIwork #YakinMADANI

Luang waktu hari Ahad menghadiri Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan KOPROJAYA Kali Ke-10 di Putrajaya. Saya melihat gerakan koperasi dari sudut yang lebih luas daripada keuntungan atau pulangan dividen semata-mata. Hakikatnya koperasi membawa gagasan besar yakni membina kekuatan ekonomi rakyat melalui penyertaan lebih luas dan perkongsian manfaat yang lebih adil, berbanding kekayaan yang hanya dimonopoli segelintir pihak yang mempunyai kekuatan modal dan pengaruh. Dari situlah lahirnya perbahasan tentang keadilan sosial dan demokrasi sosial. Kerana demokrasi yang sebenar tidak hanya soal merebut kuasa, tetapi demokrasi terbaik adalah membuka ruang kepada rakyat untuk mengambil bahagian dalam kehidupan ekonomi dan menikmati hasil pembangunan negara. Kerana itulah Bung Hatta di Indonesia melihat koperasi sebagai wahana penting untuk mencapai pemerataan ekonomi dan keadilan sosial. Beliau percaya bahawa masa depan Indonesia yang merdeka tidak boleh dibina atas penguasaan kekayaan oleh kelompok tertentu, tetapi mesti bertunjangkan penyertaan rakyat yang lebih luas dalam ekonomi. Di India pula, Dr Ambedkar mengingatkan bahawa demokrasi tidak bermakna jika ia gagal merungkai sistem yang menindas dan mengekalkan jurang yang memisahkan masyarakat. Demokrasi yang sebenar mesti memberi ruang kepada golongan yang selama ini terpinggir untuk turut menikmati peluang dan kemajuan yang dikecapi negara. Prinsip sama telah lama terpancar dalam ajaran Islam melalui semangat ta’awun atau kerjasama dalam kebaikan. Ia mengajar bahawa kelompok yang lemah tidak boleh dibiarkan berdepan cabaran secara bersendirian, sebaliknya perlu dihimpunkan kekuatan mereka agar mampu berdiri lebih teguh dan membina masa depan yang lebih baik bersama-sama. Justeru, saya melihat koperasi sebagai antara instrumen penting demokrasi sosial. Ia memperluas penyertaan, memperkasa rakyat dan memastikan manfaat pertumbuhan tidak hanya berlegar dalam kalangan segelintir, tetapi dinikmati seramai mungkin anggota masyarakat. Dalam kerangka MADANI, kita mahu menjana pertumbuhan, menarik pelaburan dan meneroka bidang-bidang baharu seperti kecerdasan buatan, transformasi digital dan peralihan tenaga. Namun kemajuan ini hanya bererti apabila hasilnya dapat diagihkan secara adil dan dirasai rakyat terbanyak. Keadilan bukan bererti memberi perkara yang sama kepada semua. Keadilan bererti memastikan setiap rakyat mendapat peluang mengikut keperluan dan keadaan masing-masing. Inilah yang dimaksudkan dengan keadilan sosial dan adil wal ihsan, memastikan kemajuan negara menjunjung martabat manusia dan membawa kesejahteraan kepada seluruh rakyat. #MalaysiaMADANI #MADANIbekerja #YakinMADANI
