Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi Chairs the 6th Regular Session of the Council of Ministers ………… Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi chaired, today, Saturday, the 6th regular session of the Council of Ministers, during which the overall situation in the country was reviewed, the items on the agenda were discussed, and the necessary decisions were issued. At the outset of the session, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi followed up on the performance of service agencies and the responsibilities of the relevant ministries, while also reviewing key economic and livelihood issues related to citizens’ daily needs. The session discussed the status of electricity services provided to citizens and ways to intensify efforts to meet the growing demand during the summer season. It also reviewed measures taken to provide fuel free of charge to private electricity generators in order to increase electricity supply hours, as well as proposals to expand fuel supply arrangements for citizens. As part of efforts to manage Iraq’s oil and gas wealth in accordance with sound economic principles, the Council of Ministers approved the renewal of the development agreement of the Basra Gas Company concerning the settlement of the company’s dues through an in-kind payment mechanism. To ensure stability in fuel supply operations, the Council of Ministers approved an amendment to its Resolution No. (119 of 2026), allowing the Ministry of Oil to continue supplying fuel, lubricants, and diesel fuel to ministries and government institutions, particularly service entities, on a deferred-payment basis. In support of agricultural production, the Council of Ministers approved the First Amendment Bill to the Agricultural Materials Trading Regulation Law No. (46 of 2012) and referred it to the Council of Representatives for consideration. The Council also approved a recommendation of the Ministerial Council for the Economy regarding the inclusion of wheat products under import licensing requirements, provided that importers submit documentation proving the purchase of quantities from the Ministry of Trade / General Company for Grain Trade equivalent to no less than 50 percent of the quantity to be imported, and that the imports are not intended for blending purposes. It was further decided to suspend imports of the product until the end of the marketing season. As part of efforts to reform the government’s administrative system, the Council of Ministers approved authorizing the Minister of Finance to submit an official letter to the World Bank and proceed with completing the accession procedures to the Arab Coalition for Reform and Governance of State-Owned Enterprises project.
