Regarding the case of the Nicaraguan Joao Maldonado, the Government of Costa Rica clarifies:1. The Directorate of Intelligence and National Security (DIS) does not have legal jurisdiction to provide protection and protection to Mr. Maldonado or any other person.2. It is completely false that the Directorate of Intelligence and National Security intervened in a home related to this case.3. There is no type of indication that in Costa Rica there is any cell organized and controlled by the Nicaraguan government.4. The Government of Costa Rica guarantees the security of all citizens, including those in refugee status and applicants.5. The case of Mr. Maldonado is a specific case that is investigated by the corresponding judicial authority as dictated by law and the Government will act in accordance with the findings of this investigation.

La Dirección de Inteligencia y Seguridad Nacional (DIS) no tiene competencia legal para brindar resguardo y protección al señor Maldonado ni a ninguna otra persona.2. Es totalmente falso que la Dirección de Inteligencia y Seguridad Nacional interviniera una vivienda relacionada con este caso.3. No existe ningún tipo de indicio de que en Costa Rica haya alguna célula organizada y controlada por el gobierno nicaragüense.4. El Gobierno de Costa Rica garantiza la seguridad de toda la ciudadanía, incluyendo aquellos en condición de refugiados y solicitantes.5. El caso del señor Maldonado es un caso puntual que es investigado por la instancia judicial correspondiente conforme lo dicta la ley y el Gobierno actuará conforme a los hallazgos de esta investigación.
