Nogui Acosta nombrado ministro de finanzas del año 2024
The Minister of Finance, Nogui Acosta received the Banker's Finance Minister of the Year 2024 award, which celebrates the officials who have best managed to stimulate growth and stabilize the economy. This award is granted after recognition of the progress that the country has made in updating its tax regulations. The removal of Costa Rica from the 'gray list', a sign of its commitment to comply with international tax standards. Also noteworthy is the fiscal consolidation plan that has reduced public debt, and that Costa Rica achieved a primary fiscal surplus for the first time in more than a decade. Other actions that stand out were the issuance of debt in Eurobonds, which is seen as a key element of the country's long-term financial strategy. Despite the growth boost, inflation has fallen sharply as global commodity prices fell and a stronger currency helped reduce goods prices. Following these events, in March 2023 the Central Bank of Costa Rica became the first central bank in Latin America to cut interest rates that year. Costa Rican real GDP growth is expected to be around 5% this year, supported by exports and the recovery of domestic demand, the IMF says. This figure is expected to fall to 3.5% in 2024, remaining broadly in line with the potential medium-term growth rate. Costa Rica twice received improvements in its credit rating from various credit agencies. Fitch cited structural strengths that include "solid governance indicators, greater economic development and per capita income well above its peers. For Minister Acosta, this recognition confirms that the Chaves Robles administration is on the right track in the task of cleaning up public finances and creating well-being for Costa Ricans. "There have been many challenges and many struggles along the way, but - with determination and perseverance - we have achieved gratifying achievements," Acosta added. Finally, compliance with the agreement with the International Monetary Fund of 725 million dollars is seen, which supports reforms to integrate climate risk into fiscal planning and strengthen public investment and the resilience of infrastructure to climate change. El ministro de Hacienda, Nogui Acosta recibió el premio Banker's Finance Minister of the Year 2024 que celebran a los funcionarios que mejor han logrado estimular el crecimiento y estabilizar la economía. Este galardón se otorga tras el reconocimiento de los avances que ha logrado el país en la actualización de sus normas tributarias. La eliminación de Costa Rica de la 'lista gris', señal de su compromiso de cumplir con los estándares fiscales internacionales. Destacan también, el plan de consolidación fiscal que ha reducido la deuda pública, y que Costa Rica logró un superávit fiscal primario por primera vez en más de una década. Otras acciones que destacan, fue la emisión de deuda en eurobonos que es vista como un elemento clave de la estrategia financiera a largo plazo del país. A pesar del impulso del crecimiento, la inflación ha disminuido drásticamente a medida que los precios mundiales de las materias primas cayeron y una moneda más fuerte ayudó a reducir los precios de los bienes. Tras estos acontecimientos, en marzo de 2023 el Banco Central de Costa Rica se convirtió en el primer banco central de América Latina en recortar las tasas de interés ese año. Se espera que el crecimiento del PIB real costarricense sea de alrededor del 5% este año, respaldado por las exportaciones y la recuperación de la demanda interna, dice el FMI. Para el ministro Acosta este reconocimiento viene a ratificar que la administración Chaves Robles va por buen camino en la tarea de sanear las finanzas públicas y crear bienestar a los costarricenses. “Ha habido muchos desafíos y muchas luchas a lo largo del camino, pero —con determinación y perseverancia— hemos conseguido logros gratificantes¨, agregó Acosta. Finalmente se hace ver el cumplimiento del acuerdo con el Fondo Monetario Internacional de 725 millones de dólares que apoya reformas para integrar el riesgo climático en la planificación fiscal y fortalecer la inversión pública y la resiliencia de la infraestructura al cambio climático.
