MAG y LAICA se unen para impulsar sostenibilidad del Sector Cañero

In a joint effort to promote sustainability and efficiency in the Costa Rican sugarcane sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and the Sugarcane Industrial Agricultural League (LAICA) have formalized a framework agreement for inter-institutional cooperation. This alliance aims to promote sustainability in the sugarcane sector, promoting more efficient practices, technical and environmentally friendly. “This union between MAG and LAICA, in addition to strengthening the relationships between the two institutions, reinforces the technical assistance services provided, seeks to promote better practices in the sugarcane sector and promotes producers to implement more sustainable management of production on their farms that adapts to climate change,” commented the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Víctor Julio Carvajal Porras. People dedicated to the sugarcane activity will also benefit from the promotion. of actions in research, innovation and technological transfer, which will serve to positively impact producers of other crops that require the technological advances achieved in sugar cane. Among the first steps of work we find: projects for the production of bioinputs, circular economy, plant breeding, crop nutrition, integrated pest management, precision agriculture, health and soil quality, among others. The MAG-LAICA agreement will be valid for 4 years and was signed between the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Víctor Julio Carvajal Porras and the executive director of LAICA, Edgar Herrera Echandi.

• Personas productoras podrán contar con acompañamiento técnico y una mayor oferta tecnológica.• Convenio será por 4 años.En un esfuerzo conjunto por potenciar la sostenibilidad y la eficiencia en el sector cañero costarricense, el Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) y la Liga Agrícola Industrial de la Caña de Azúcar (LAICA) han formalizado un convenio marco de cooperación interinstitucional.Esta alianza tiene como objetivo impulsar la sostenibilidad en el sector cañero, promoviendo prácticas más eficientes, tecnificadas y amigables con el medio ambiente.“Esta unión entre el MAG y LAICA, además de fortalecer las relaciones entre las dos instituciones, refuerza los servicios técnicos de asistencia que se brindan, busca impulsar mejores prácticas en el sector cañero y promueve que los productores implementen en sus fincas un manejo más sostenible de la producción que se adapte al cambio climático”, comentó el ministro de Agricultura y Ganadería Víctor Julio Carvajal Porras.Las personas dedicadas a la actividad cañera también se verán beneficiadas con la promoción de acciones en investigación, innovación y transferencia tecnológica, lo cual servirá para impactar positivamente a productores de otros cultivos que requieren de los avances tecnológicos logrados en la caña de azúcar.Entre los primeros pasos de trabajo encontramos: proyectos de producción de bioinsumos, economía circular, fitomejoramiento, nutrición al cultivo, manejo integrado de plagas, agricultura de precisión, salud y calidad del suelo, entre otros.El convenio MAG-LAICA, tendrá una vigencia de 4 años y se suscribió entre el ministro de Agricultura y Ganadería, Víctor Julio Carvajal Porras y el director ejecutivo de LAICA, Edgar Herrera Echandi.
