Syrian energy minister, senior U.S. senator discuss energy cooperation and investment

Washington, June 10 (SANA)Syrian Energy MinisterMohammad al-Bashirmet with U.S. Senator Jim Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to discuss challenges facingSyria’s energy sectorand opportunities for future cooperation and investment.

The meeting, held at theU.S.Congress in Washington, focused on infrastructure needs, energy supply security, attracting investment and developing technical and professional capabilities within the sector, according to the Ministry of Energy.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise to support the modernization and long-term sustainability of Syria’s energy sector.

According to the ministry, discussions covered potential cooperation across a range of energy fields and ways to benefit from international experience and best practices in addressing current challenges and supporting economic development.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue and coordination to advance cooperation in the energy sector, support mutual interests and contribute to long-term energy security and stability.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of theGlobal Energy Forum, held in Washington on June 9 and 10, which brings together government officials, industry leaders and international experts to discuss energy security, energy transition and future investment trends.

A Syrian delegation headed by al-Bashir is participating in the forum as part of efforts to strengthen international energy partnerships and explore investment opportunities in Syria’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
