La República Dominicana será sede de las reuniones del cine iberoamericano
Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE) announced the celebration in the Dominican Republic of the XLVIII Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities of Ibero-America (Caaci) and the Ordinary Meeting of the Ibermedia Program, meetings that will take place from June 22 to 26, 2026, at the Hemingway Club, Juan Dolio.
The announcement was made during a press conference headed by the Vice Minister of Creativity and Artistic Training of the Ministry of Culture, Amaury Sánchez; the general director of the DGCINE, Marianna Vargas Gurilieva; the president of Banco López de Haro, Javier Rodríguez, and the general manager of the Hemingway Club, Ángel Pérez.
This fact constitutes recognition of the growth and strengthening of the Dominican audiovisual industry, consolidating the country as a regional reference for film production, international cooperation and the development of public policies for the sector.
During the meetings, government representatives, film authorities and heads of audiovisual organizations from twenty other Ibero-American countries will participate, who will address issues related to regional cooperation, the circulation of cinematographic works, co-production opportunities and the strengthening of the audiovisual industry.
"The holding of these meetings in our country is a sign of the trust that the Ibero-American audiovisual community places in the Dominican Republic. It allows us to strengthen strategic alliances and continue positioning the country as a relevant actor within the regional audiovisual ecosystem," expressed Marianna Vargas Gurilieva.
This year's edition will also have a special meaning for Ibermedia, as it will mark a historic moment: for the first time since the creation of the program in 1997, the person who will assume the technical and executive secretariat will be chosen, a responsibility carried out for almost three decades by Elena Vilardell, a key figure in the consolidation of one of the most successful audiovisual cooperation mechanisms in the region.
Vice Minister Amaury Sánchez highlighted "that the Dominican Republic has been chosen as the venue for these important meetings constitutes recognition of the work that the country has been doing in favor of the development of its audiovisual industry. This meeting strengthens our presence in international cooperation spaces and contributes to continuing to project Dominican culture on the Ibero-American stage."
In turn, Javier Rodríguez, president of Banco López de Haro, highlighted that "for us it is an honor to support the celebration of these meetings in the Dominican Republic. In recent years we have accompanied important film projects developed in the country, convinced of the potential of an industry that generates jobs, boosts the economy and projects our nation to the world. We trust in the continuous growth of the Dominican audiovisual sector and in its ability to continue attracting investment, talent and new opportunities for the country."
Ángel Pérez, general manager of Club Hemingway also stated that "opening the doors of Club Hemingway to welcome the Ibero-American audiovisual community is a reason for pride and an opportunity to continue contributing to the development of the sector. For years we have accompanied the development of the Dominican audiovisual industry, hosting national and international productions and supporting projects that generate value for the country. The celebration of Caaci and Ibermedia in our facilities represents an extraordinary opportunity to continue strengthening that link between culture, tourism and investment.”
Two pillars of Ibero-American audiovisual cooperation
Caaci and Ibermedia are fundamental pillars for the development of Ibero-American audiovisuals. Through cooperation between member countries, both organizations have contributed to institutional strengthening, professional training and the realization of co-productions that have boosted the growth of the industry in the region. In this context, the Dominican Republic was elected in June 2023 as a member of the Caaci Advisory Council, a reflection of its growing leadership and commitment to Ibero-American audiovisual development.
Club Hemingway: film scene and audiovisual development
The choice of the Hemingway Club as the venue for the meetings also recognizes one of the most emblematic locations for Dominican audiovisuals. This space has served as a setting for important national and international productions, including “Nyad”, consolidating itself as a strategic ally of the industry thanks to its infrastructure, accommodation capacity and proximity to important film production centers. Its growth has been closely linked to the development of the national audiovisual industry, contributing to strengthening the offer of services, accommodation and facilities required by international productions and events linked to the sector.
The celebration of these meetings has the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, the support of Banco López de Haro and the support of the Hemingway Club. Likewise, it is sponsored by La Aurora Cigars, Ron E. León Jimenes, Café Kora, Cortés Hermanos with its Forteza brand, Timecode Films, Terra RD Partners and TIMM as a media partner.
As part of the activities parallel to the meeting, an Ibero-American Film Series will be developed, which will bring a selection of representative works from different countries in the region to the Dominican public. The screenings will take place at the Dominican Cinematheque, the Hemingway Club and the Ozama Fortress, promoting cultural exchange and access to Ibero-American cinematographic diversity.
