MICITT fortalece ciberseguridad en sector salud
The Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT) and the Ministry of Health launched an initiative to train more than 20,000 health professionals in cybersecurity with the support of the United States Embassy.
The initiative represents an important step towards a safer and more secure health sector in Costa Rica and reflects the Government's commitment to promoting a culture of cybersecurity in all areas of society.
At the end of the process, it is expected to have trained at least 30% of the members of the health professional associations and an additional thousand more professionals with the support of the Costa Rican Chamber of Health, the Life Sciences Hub and the Cybersecurity chapter of CAMTIC.
This initiative is also aligned with the public policies led by the MICITT, including the National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023-2027), which establishes as one of its pillars the reinforcement of the capabilities of the cybersecurity ecosystem, promoting education, training and training programs on the subject. Likewise, the National Development and Public Investment Plan includes the promotion of culture for cybersecurity, with the aim of developing an information and communication process on this important topic.
Paula Bogantes, Minister of MICITT, highlighted that cybersecurity skills are essential in the digital era "It is essential that health professionals be trained in cybersecurity, since they handle sensitive patient data. The protection of this information not only guarantees the privacy of individuals, but also contributes to the generation of trust for the incorporation of technologies in the health system and the strengthening of cybersecurity in the country."
For her part, Minister of Health, Mary Munive, expressed: "At the Ministry of Health we have defined a Roadmap that envisions an increasingly digital future. Clinical data is extremely sensitive and must be protected with the highest level of security to guarantee privacy and integrity. For this reason, we are reinforcing comprehensive capabilities in all actors in the health sector in order to promote safe digital solutions with sensitized and trained personnel."
The training has already begun through the bodies that are part of the Digital Health Technical Committee, led by the Ministry of Health and is part of the project portfolio of the roadmap for the implementation of Digital Health in the country.

El Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones (MICITT) y el Ministerio de Salud, pusieron en marcha una iniciativa para capacitar en ciberseguridad a más de 20.000 profesionales de la salud con el apoyo de la Embajada de Estados Unidos. Esta iniciativa se alinea además con las políticas públicas lideradas por el MICITT entre ellas la Estrategia Nacional de Ciberseguridad (2023-2027) que establece como uno de sus pilares el refuerzo de las capacidades del ecosistema de ciberseguridad, promoviendo programas de educación, capacitación y formación en el tema. Asimismo, el Plan Nacional de Desarrollo e Inversión Pública incluye la promoción de la cultura para la ciberseguridad, con el objetivo de desarrollar un proceso de información y comunicación sobre este importante tema. Paula Bogantes, ministra del MICITT destacó que las habilidades en ciberseguridad son indispensables en la era digital “Es fundamental que los profesionales de la salud se formen en ciberseguridad, ya que manejan datos sensibles de los pacientes. La protección de esta información no sólo garantiza la privacidad de los individuos, sino que también contribuye en la generación de confianza para la incorporación de tecnologías en el sistema de salud y al fortalecimiento de la seguridad cibernética en el país”. Por su parte, Ministra de Salud, Mary Munive, expresó: “Desde el Ministerio de Salud hemos definido una Hoja de Ruta que visualiza un futuro cada vez más digital, los datos clínicos son extremadamente sensibles y deben estar protegidos con el más alto nivel de seguridad para garantizar la privacidad e integridad, por este motivo estamos reforzando capacidades integrales en todos los actores del sector salud con el fin promover soluciones digitales seguras con personal sensibilizado y capacitado” Las capacitaciones ya iniciaron a través de las instancias que forman parte del Comité Técnico de Salud Digital, liderado por el Ministerio de Salud y es parte de la cartera de proyectos de la hoja de ruta para la implementación de Salud Digital en el país.
