Thank God, we restored the Selimiye Mosque, one of the most aesthetic works of not only Turkish-Islamic architecture but also world architecture, in accordance with its original form and reopened it for worship today. Our restoration process, which lasted four years, was the most comprehensive restoration work in Selimiye's 450-year history. From the pencil work to the stone texture, from the interior arrangements to the environmental revitalization, every step was taken to remain faithful to the original work. While old cement applications that damaged the structure were cleaned, reinforcements were made on the main dome, minarets and all static systems. From the entrance gate to the muezzin's gallery, from the mihrab tiles to the woodwork, we have not left a single spot untouched, restored, cleaned or strengthened, so to speak. We specifically did not touch the section that was hit by a cannonball as a result of the fire of the Bulgarian forces during the Balkan Wars and left a mark on the mosque facade. We preserved that trace as a living witness of the difficult struggles we fought in these lands. We believe that, with the restoration work that cost approximately 450 million liras, we have given Selimiye another hundred years, with God's permission.
