Words from President Javier Milei during the presentation of sabers and medals at the Joint Graduation Ceremony of the Armed Forces at the Military College
Good afternoon everyone. Before beginning, I would like to commemorate the two members of the Army and the member of the Gendarmerie who unfortunately lost their lives this week. Each one, from their place, served the Nation and all Argentines with vocation and sacrifice and for that they deserve our eternal gratitude. My team and I are available for whatever the families we will accompany need in this moment of great pain.
Going to what brings us here today, I want to greet the new Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Presti, the Chiefs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the members of the national Executive Branch present and very especially this new class of graduates from our three Forces, second lieutenants, midshipmen and second lieutenants who will form the class of 2025.
It is an honor for me, as President of the Nation and commander in chief of the Armed Forces, to participate in this common graduation ceremony. In this act they formally complete the basic training for service to the country that they have bravely chosen, and for that I want to congratulate them.
Today begins a new stage in their lives: today they stop being students and begin their professional lives, in which they will not only put into practice all the knowledge learned during these years, but they will also continue to learn everything that is not found in books and is equally valuable and important for their development and performance.
After completing this speech, I will be taking the oath of allegiance to our National Constitution to all of you as official members of our forces, forging an unbreakable commitment between you and our Nation for the rest of your lives.
Then we will proceed to deliver the sabers. These sabers are the representation of the highest principles and values of our serious liberators. They are the symbol of the command that will accompany them throughout their military career and the compass that will guide their courses from now on.
In this graduation ceremony they formally join a brotherhood that has protected our homeland for 219 years and is therefore a source of pride among all Argentines. As the motto of this alma mater states, order, courage and glory are fundamental pillars of the military code and therefore fundamental pillars of the great nation it swore to protect. This is something that as an economist I share, since it is the order and courage of doing what is right even when it is unpopular, that lead nations to the glory of growth and prosperity.
This is in line with something that you may have heard me say, but that I will not stop repeating: we maintain that a country can only be sovereign when it builds wealth and builds the capabilities to defend that wealth.
Previous governments talked about sovereignty for decades; While they carried out their sovereignty pantomime, they left an impoverished country from which a large majority sought to escape, a country that was taken as an example worldwide of everything that should not be done. But not only did they leave us a disastrous legacy in economic matters, they also tried to fracture the relationship between civil society and the forces in charge of defending it. For a long time they dedicated themselves to demonizing our forces and defunding them. This caused us to lose valuable years in the development of our military capabilities, but luckily they never managed to destroy the unbreakable bond that exists between Argentines and their Armed Forces.
Our mission, then, is clearer than ever: we have the duty to rebuild economic growth and we also have the duty to use that growth to restore and increase the capacity and strength of our Armed Forces. Because without it and without you we will not be able to ensure the continuity of that growth, which is nothing other than the well-being and freedom of all Argentines. The road is long and we have already taken the most difficult step of all, which is to break the inertia and begin to travel it. So know that we are going to do everything in our power to support you. Lieutenant General Presti can attest to that. So I propose, as a final message, a return to the most basic order.
Dear graduates, from today onwards you are dedicated to defending the country that our Government is going to dedicate to defending you. Thank you all very much, may God bless you, may the forces of heaven be with us and long live the Homeland.

Palabras del Presidente Javier Milei durante la entrega de sables y medallas en la Ceremonia de Egreso Conjunto de las Fuerzas Armadas en el Colegio Militar Buenas tardes a todos. Antes de comenzar quisiera conmemorar a los dos integrantes del Ejército y al integrante de Gendarmería que lamentablemente perdieron la vida esta semana. Cada uno, desde su lugar, sirvieron a la Nación y a todos los argentinos con vocación y sacrificio y por eso merecen nuestra eterna gratitud. Mi equipo y yo estamos a disposición para lo que necesiten las familias a quienes acompañaremos en este momento de gran dolor. Yendo a lo que nos convoca aquí hoy, quiero saludar al flamante Ministro de Defensa, el Teniente General Carlos Presti, a los señores Jefe del Estado Mayor Conjunto y de los Estados Mayores Generales de las Fuerzas Armadas, a los integrantes del Poder Ejecutivo nacional presente y muy especialmente a esta nueva camada de egresados de nuestras tres Fuerzas, subtenientes, guardiamarinas y alféreces que formarán la clase 2025. Es un honor para mí, como Presidente de la Nación y comandante en Jefe de las Fuerzas Armadas, participar de esta ceremonia de egreso común. En este acto culminan formalmente la formación básica para el servicio a la patria que han elegido valientemente, y por eso quiero felicitarlos. Hoy comienza una nueva etapa en sus vidas: hoy dejan de ser estudiantes e inician su vida profesional, en la que no solo llevarán a la práctica todos los conocimientos aprendidos durante estos años, sino que también continuarán aprendiendo todo lo que no se encuentra en los libros y es igual de valioso e importante para su desarrollo y desempeño. Tras finalizar este discurso, les estaré tomando juramento de fidelidad a nuestra Constitución Nacional a todos ustedes como miembros oficiales de nuestras fuerzas, forjando un compromiso inquebrantable entre ustedes y nuestra Nación para el resto de sus vidas. Luego procederemos a realizar las entregas de sables. Dichos sables son la representación de los máximos principios y valores de nuestros serios liberadores. Son el símbolo del mando que los acompañará durante toda su carrera militar y la brújula que guiará sus rumbos de ahora en adelante. En este acto de egreso se unen formalmente a una hermandad que protege nuestra patria desde hace 219 años y por ello es motivo de orgullo entre todos los argentinos. Tal como reza el lema de esta alma mater, el orden, el valor y la gloria, son pilares fundamentales del código militar y por tanto pilares fundamentales de la gran nación que juró proteger. Esto es algo que en mi carácter de economista comparto, dado que son el orden y el valor de hacer lo que es correcto incluso cuando sea impopular, los que llevan a las naciones a la gloria de crecimiento y la prosperidad. Esto va en línea con algo que posiblemente me hayan escuchado decir, pero que no dejaré de repetir: nosotros sostenemos que un país solo puede ser soberano cuando construye riqueza y construye las capacidades para defender esa riqueza. Los gobiernos anteriores se llenaron la boca hablando de soberanía durante décadas; mientras ejecutaban su pantomima soberanista, dejaron un país empobrecido del cual una gran mayoría buscaba escapar, un país que era tomado de ejemplo a nivel mundial de todo lo que no debía hacerse. Pero no solo nos dejaron un nefasto legado en materia económica, también intentaron fracturar la relación entre la sociedad civil y las fuerzas encargadas de defenderla. Durante mucho tiempo se dedicaron a demonizar a nuestras fuerzas y a desfinanciarlas. Eso nos hizo perder años valiosos en el desarrollo de nuestras capacidades militares, pero por suerte nunca lograron destruir el lazo inquebrantable que existe entre los argentinos y sus Fuerzas Armadas. Nuestra misión, entonces, es más clara que nunca: tenemos el deber de recomponer el crecimiento económico y tenemos también el deber de utilizar ese crecimiento para restituir y aumentar la capacidad y la fuerza de nuestras Fuerzas Armadas. Porque sin ella y sin ustedes no podremos asegurar la continuidad de ese crecimiento, que no es otra cosa que el bienestar y la libertad de todos los argentinos. El camino es largo y ya dimos el paso más difícil de todos que es romper la inercia y comenzar a transitarlo. Por eso sepan que vamos a hacer todo lo que esté en nuestro poder para apoyarlos. El Teniente General Presti puede dar fe de eso. Entonces les propongo, como mensaje final, un retorno al orden más elemental. Queridos graduados de hoy en adelante ustedes se dedican a defender el país que nuestro Gobierno se va a dedicar a defenderlos a ustedes. Muchas gracias a todos, que Dios los bendiga, que las fuerzas del cielo nos acompañen y viva la Patria.
