MICITT, INDER y Promotora de Innovación unen esfuerzos para impulsar el desarrollo tecnológico en zonas rurales de Costa Rica
• Investment of ₡1,098 million will allow equipping 12 Community Innovation Laboratories (LINC) and strengthening 44 Smart Community Centers (CECI) throughout the country. • The project seeks to close the digital divide, encourage the development of technological skills by providing access to advanced technologies and training in digital skills such as robotics, cybersecurity, programming and big data analysis to promote more inclusive and sustainable rural development in Costa Rica. The Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT), the Institute of Rural Development (INDER) and the Costa Rican Promoter of Innovation and Research announced today a strategic alliance to strengthen the Community Innovation Laboratories (LINC) and the Intelligent Community Centers (CECI) in rural areas of Costa Rica. This initiative's main objective is to close the digital divide and promote the development of technological skills in rural communities. The Minister of MICITT, Paula Bogantes, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the development of the country: "We are committed to bringing innovation and technology to every corner of Costa Rica. The LINC and CECI will be spaces where rural communities can access cutting-edge tools and knowledge, which will allow them to develop solutions to their own challenges and improve their quality of life." For his part, the President of INDER, Osvaldo Artavia Carballo, highlighted the impact that this project will have on rural development: "We firmly believe in the potential of rural communities to innovate and generate solutions to their own problems. This alliance with the MICITT and the Promotora will allow us to strengthen local capacities and promote more inclusive and sustainable rural development." Patricia Rojas, General Manager of the Innovation Promoter added: "The Promotora is proud to be part of this initiative that will promote innovation and entrepreneurship in rural areas of Costa Rica. We are committed to providing the necessary support for the LINC and CECI to become engines of development for their communities." The Community Innovation Laboratories (LINC) are open and creative spaces that provide a stimulating and collaborative environment for the development of new solutions to the needs of the community. Its objective is to be a catalyst to generate innovation in communities, promoting intersectoral articulation, the development of local capacities and skills, and the creation of practical and sustainable long-term solutions. These laboratories incorporate elements of robotics, cybersecurity, programming and big data analysis, providing users with tools that improve their employability. The Smart Community Centers (CECI) are learning and training spaces in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) that are located in various parts of the national territory, coordinated by the MICITT together with strategic partners from the private sector, academia, community organizations, local governments and other public institutions. For several years they have facilitated access to information and knowledge, allowing the development of digital skills in rural communities. With this investment, it is expected to equip 12 new LINCs and strengthen 44 CECIs throughout the country. The project is framed in the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan, and seeks to promote a more equitable and technologically advanced society.

La Ministra del MICITT, Paula Bogantes, destacó la importancia de esta iniciativa para el desarrollo del país: "Estamos comprometidos a llevar la innovación y la tecnología a todos los rincones de Costa Rica. Los LINC y CECI serán espacios donde las comunidades rurales podrán acceder a herramientas y conocimientos de vanguardia, lo que les permitirá desarrollar soluciones a sus propios desafíos y mejorar su calidad de vida." Por su parte, el Presidente del INDER, Osvaldo Artavia Carballo resaltó el impacto que este proyecto tendrá en el desarrollo rural: "Creemos firmemente en el potencial de las comunidades rurales para innovar y generar soluciones a sus propios problemas. Esta alianza con el MICITT y la Promotora nos permitirá fortalecer las capacidades locales y promover un desarrollo rural más inclusivo y sostenible." Estamos comprometidos a brindar el apoyo necesario para que los LINC y CECI se conviertan en motores de desarrollo para sus comunidades."Los Laboratorios de Innovación Comunitaria (LINC) son espacios abiertos y creativos que brindan un entorno estimulante y colaborativo para el desarrollo de nuevas soluciones a las necesidades de la comunidad. Su objetivo es ser un catalizador para generar innovación en las comunidades, promoviendo la articulación intersectorial, el desarrollo de capacidades y habilidades locales, y la creación de soluciones prácticas y sostenibles a largo plazo. Estos laboratorios incorporan elementos de robótica, ciberseguridad, programación y análisis de big data, brindando a los usuarios herramientas que mejoran su empleabilidad. Los Centros Comunitarios Inteligentes (CECI) son espacios de aprendizaje y capacitación en el uso de tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) que se ubican en varios puntos del territorio nacional, coordinados por el MICITT junto a socios estratégicos del sector privado, la academia, organizaciones comunales, gobiernos locales y otras instituciones públicas. Durante varios años han facilitado el acceso a la información y el conocimiento permitiendo el desarrollo de habilidades digitales en las comunidades rurales. Con esta inversión, se espera equipar 12 nuevos LINC y fortalecer 44 CECI en todo el país. El proyecto se enmarca en los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y en el Plan Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, y busca promover una sociedad más equitativa y tecnológicamente avanzada.
