Passation de charges au Ministère en charge de la culture : Yassine LATOUNDJI affiche ses ambitions pour les arts et le patrimoine béninois
The new Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Mr. Yassine LATOUNDJI, officially took office this Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Ministerial City in Cotonou. This, thanks to the handover ceremony with Mrs. Shadiya Alimatou ASSOUMA, Interim Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. This ceremony, held in the presence of executives from the two Ministries, Directors General of Agencies and several players in the cultural sector, comes after the formation of the new government of President Romuald WADAGNI, and which dedicated the creation of the new Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, now distinct from the department in charge of tourism. In her intervention, the Interim Minister welcomed the progress recorded in recent years in the cultural sector, in particular the promotion of heritage, museum projects, structural reforms as well as the growing international influence of cultural Benin. It also presented some challenges to be taken up in terms of institutional reforms, museum and heritage projects and that of the structuring and professionalization of professions and sectors in the sector. A vision guided by three great loyalties Speaking in turn, Minister Yassine LATOUNDJI delivered a speech marked by determination and commitment. “I am not coming here to make a speech, I am coming to make a commitment,” he declared at the outset, before affirming his desire to make culture “a pillar of the new Benin” desired by the Head of State. After thanking the Head of State for entrusting him with this department, he paid tribute to his predecessors, in particular to former Minister Babalola Jean-Michel ABIMBOLA for the progress recorded under the previous regime. The new boss in charge of heritage insisted on the need to transform the country's cultural wealth into real economic leverage. “A culture that shines without enriching those who carry it is only a showcase,” he maintained. Minister LATOUNDJI also revealed the three great loyalties that will guide his action at the head of the ministerial department. First, loyalty to Beninese identity through the promotion of languages, rites, Vodun and the country's royal heritage. Then, loyalty to Beninese creators and artists in order to structure cultural sectors, improve copyright protection and promote access to financing and training. Finally, a loyalty to the cultural heritage which he considers as a living memory, an economic wealth and a promise for tomorrow. For the youth to whom he remains very attached, Minister Yassine LATOUNDJI promises to make the cultural and creative industries an engine for the creation of jobs and opportunities. “Our youth are not waiting for a future, they are already creating it,” he said, before pleading for more resources for young talents. For him, the influence of Beninese cultural heritage is not a diplomatic objective, but an economic engine. “The ambition that I have for Beninese culture is demanding,” he concluded, thus placing his mandate in a dynamic of action, results and sustainable transformation of the Beninese cultural landscape.

Le nouveau Ministre de la Culture, des Arts et du Patrimoine, Monsieur Yassine LATOUNDJI, a officiellement pris fonction ce mardi 26 mai 2026 à la Cité ministérielle à Cotonou. Cela, à la faveur de la cérémonie de passation de charges avec Madame Shadiya Alimatou ASSOUMA, Ministre intérimaire du tourisme, de la culture et des arts. Cette cérémonie, tenue en présence des cadres des deux Ministères, des Directeurs généraux d’Agences et de plusieurs acteurs du secteur culturel, intervient après la formation du nouveau gouvernement du Président Romuald WADAGNI, et qui consacré la création du nouveau Ministère de la Culture, des Arts et du Patrimoine, désormais distinct du département en charge du tourisme.Dans son intervention, la Ministre intérimaire a salué les progrès enregistrés ces dernières années dans le secteur culturel, notamment la valorisation du patrimoine, les projets muséaux, les réformes structurelles ainsi que le rayonnement international croissant du Bénin culturel. Elle a également présenté quelques défis à relever sur le plan des réformes institutionnelles, des projets muséaux et patrimoniaux et celui de la structuration et la professionnalisation des métiers et filières du secteur.Une vision guidée par trois grandes fidélitésPrenant la parole à son tour, le Ministre Yassine LATOUNDJI a livré un discours empreint de détermination et d’engagement. « Je ne viens pas ici pour faire un discours, je viens prendre un engagement », a-t-il déclaré d’entrée, avant d’affirmer sa volonté de faire de la culture « un pilier du Bénin nouveau » voulu par le Chef de l’État.Après avoir remercié le Chef de l’État pour lui avoir confié ce département, il a rendu hommage à ses prédécesseurs, notamment à l’ancien Ministre Babalola Jean-Michel ABIMBOLA pour les avancées enregistrées sous le régime précédent. Le nouveau patron en charge du patrimoine a insisté sur la nécessité de transformer les richesses culturelles du pays en véritable levier économique. « Une culture qui rayonne sans enrichir ceux qui la portent n’est qu’une vitrine », a-t-il soutenu.Le Ministre LATOUNDJI a également dévoilé les trois grandes fidélités qui guideront son action à la tête du département ministériel. D’abord, une fidélité à l’identité béninoise à travers la promotion des langues, des rites, du Vodun et des patrimoines royaux du pays. Ensuite, une fidélité aux créateurs et artistes béninois afin de structurer les filières culturelles, améliorer la protection des droits d’auteur et favoriser l’accès aux financements et à la formation. Enfin, une fidélité au patrimoine culturel qu’il considère comme une mémoire vivante, une richesse économique et une promesse pour demain.Pour la jeunesse à laquelle il reste très attaché, le Ministre Yassine LATOUNDJI promet de faire des industries culturelles et créatives un moteur de création d’emplois et d’opportunités. « Notre jeunesse n’attend pas un avenir, elle est déjà en train de le créer », a-t-il affirmé, avant de plaider pour davantage de moyens en faveur des jeunes talents. Pour lui, le rayonnement du patrimoine culturel béninois n'est pas un objectif diplomatique, mais un moteur économique. « L'ambition que je porte pour la culture béninoise est exigeante », a-t-il conclu, inscrivant ainsi son mandat dans une dynamique d’action, de résultats et de transformation durable du paysage culturel béninois.
