Nachhaltige Entwicklung – Agenda 2030 /SDGs
Austria is committed to implementing the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda offers an internationally binding framework in which all dimensions of sustainable development are systematically taken into account and thus a good life is to be guaranteed for everyone in accordance with the principle of "Leaving no one behind".
As part of the SDG communication workshop "Telling the future - making transformation visible", around 60 participants from media, politics, administration, science, youth, civil society and business discussed new approaches for credible and effective sustainability communication. The workshop was initiated by the Ban Ki-moon Foundation in collaboration with the Federal Chancellery.

The seventh edition of the annual "Europe Sustainable Development Report", published on February 25, 2026, shows where European countries stand in SDG implementation. In the general European ranking, Austria was able to maintain fourth place. In the “Leaving no one behind” index, Austria once again came in 10th place and thus above the European average.

At a high-level summit of the United Nations (UN) from September 25th to 27th, 2015, the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" was adopted under the title "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". All 193 member states of the United Nations commit to working towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national, regional and international levels by 2030.
The 2030 Agenda is the current culmination of a long-standing international debate about sustainable economic, social and ecological development. Due to its universal validity and the holistic development approach, which gives equal consideration to the three dimensions of economics, social affairs and ecology, and also calls for the preservation of human rights, the rule of law, good governance, peace and security, the 2030 Agenda represents a novelty.
With the Council of Ministers' decision of January 12, 2016, all federal ministries were commissioned to coherently implement the "Agenda 2030". In the interministerial working group "Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", which was created at the same time, in which all federal ministries are represented by official SDGs officers, an initial presentation based on exemplary implementation measures of the federal ministries was developed and published in March 2017 under the chairmanship of the Federal Chancellery and the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs.

Österreich bekennt sich zur Umsetzung der Agenda 2030 der Vereinten Nationen (United Nations, UN) mit ihren 17 Nachhaltigen Entwicklungszielen (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs). Die Agenda 2030 bietet einen international verbindlichen Rahmen, in dem systematisch alle Dimensionen der nachhaltigen Entwicklung berücksichtigt werden und so ein gutes Leben für alle gemäß dem Grundsatz "Leaving no one behind" gewährleistet werden soll. Im Rahmen des SDG-Kommunikationsworkshops "Zukunft erzählen – Transformation sichtbar machen" diskutierten rund 60 Teilnehmende aus Medien, Politik, Verwaltung, Wissenschaft, Jugend, Zivilgesellschaft und Wirtschaft gemeinsam neue Ansätze für eine glaubwürdige und wirkungsvolle Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation. Februar 2026 veröffentlichte siebte Ausgabe des jährlichen "Europe Sustainable DevelopmentReport" zeigt, wo die europäischen Länder bei der SDG-Umsetzung stehen. Im allgemeinen europäischen Ranking konnte Österreich den 4. Platz halten. Beim Index zu"Leaving no one behind"landete Österreich erneut auf Platz 10 und damit über dem europäischen Durchschnitt. September 2015 wurde die "Agenda 2030 für nachhaltige Entwicklung" unter dem Titel "Transformation unserer Welt: die Agenda 2030 für nachhaltige Entwicklung" beschlossen. Alle 193 Mitgliedstaaten der Vereinten Nationen verpflichten sich, auf die Umsetzung der Agenda 2030 mit ihren 17 nachhaltigen Entwicklungszielen (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) auf nationaler, regionaler und internationaler Ebene bis zum Jahr 2030 hinzuarbeiten. Die Agenda 2030 ist der vorläufige Höhepunkt einer schon längere Zeit währenden internationalen Debatte über nachhaltige wirtschaftliche, soziale und ökologische Entwicklung. Durch ihreuniverselle Gültigkeit und aufgrund des ganzheitlichen Entwicklungsansatzes, der die drei Dimensionen Wirtschaft, Soziales und Ökologie gleichrangig berücksichtigt, und dabei auch die Wahrung der Menschenrechte, Rechtstaatlichkeit,Good Governance, Frieden und Sicherheit einfordert, stellt die Agenda 2030 ein Novum dar. Mit demMinisterratsbeschluss vom 12. Jänner 2016wurden alle Bundesministerien zur kohärenten Umsetzung der "Agenda 2030" beauftragt.
