Sweden has become a member of the Global Coalition on Telecommunications (GCOT). It is a global coalition of countries that jointly drive policy development in telecommunications. In connection to Sweden joining the coalition, the members of GCOT launched Security and Resilience Principles for 6G, which Sweden endorses.

The Government has today received an inquiry report on the possibility of countries outside the EU to take part in public procurements of municipalities, regions and government agencies. This memorandum includes proposals on amendments to public procurement legislation with the aim of protecting national interests and ensuring harmonisation with EU law.

The Government is investing more than SEK 5 billion to strengthen the Swedish Armed Forces’ anti-drone capabilities and expand JAS 39 Gripen capabilities. The investment in anti-drone capabilities will enable the Swedish Armed Forces to shorten its lead times by eight years. The previous 2036 deadline for final delivery will now be brought forward to 2028. This decision will also enhance the resilience of the combat air system in times of peace, crisis and war. It marks the first use of the funds allocated in the Spring Amending Budget for ‘opportune purchases’.

Sweden has signed a joint statement on principles for the development of the future 6G policies. The statement was presented on 27 February 2024 in connection with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It includes an agreement on common principles that will guide research and development of future 6G policies both domestically and internationally.
