President Javier Milei's speech at the 29th Annual Milken Institute Conference in Los Angeles
PRESIDENT.- Good afternoon everyone. I want to start by thanking the Milken Institute, everyone involved in the organization, and Michael Milken personally for making this meeting possible once again. It is a pleasure to be again among people with whom I share the same way of looking at the world. And it is a special joy to find ourselves in a particular year for this nation that welcomes us.
The year that the United States celebrates 250 years of existence. A quarter of a millennium since a group of free men, admirers of Roman greatness, dared to found the most successful Republic in human history on a simple and therefore revolutionary idea. That idea was the seed of the American dream. Contrary to what many might think today, the United States was not founded on a promise of guaranteed well-being or a program of wealth redistribution. It was just a powerful philosophical statement that each person comes into the world with rights prior to the State and that no king, no official or any circumstantial majority can take them away from them. I see that there are many supporters of natural law.
These rights are few, but that does not mean they are small. They are the right to life, liberty and property. And they knew that with those rights under their arm, anyone had a chance to prosper, if they applied enough effort and had enough merit, no matter who they were, no matter where they came from. They knew that over time the freedom and mobility of the new world would triumph over the stagnation of the old world engrossed in defending noble hierarchies sustained by rigid and exclusive economic models. This revolutionary idea inverted the millennial order: for the first time in history it was not the citizen who existed to serve the state, but the State that existed to protect the rights of the citizen.
That was a new purpose, that was its new meaning and its new mission. And if he betrayed them, he ipso facto ceased to be legitimate. And what came next demonstrated the power of that investment. The nation that you have around you, the greatest experience of human progress known in history, the greatest power that humanity has ever seen.
I believe that this idea of the American dream was not limited only to the United States, but spread throughout the continent, without going any further, it had an exemplary student in Argentina, in what I like to call the heroic age of my country. Argentina followed a path similar to that of the United States, although a few decades later, with the help of Juan Bautista Alberdi, a follower of Thomas Jefferson, my country laid the foundations for the drafting of a liberal constitution, inspired by the one signed by the historic Constituent Convention headed by George Washington.
Just as Jefferson established that a government is better when it governs less, Alberdi asked, what does wealth require from the law to be produced and created? And the answer was what Diogenes demanded of Alexander, that he not overshadow him.
Shortly after, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the President who set the course of modern Argentina, traveled to these lands to study this model of freedom. With that liberal Alberdi Constitution, with an institutional legal framework that established and protected these basic rights and principles, and with true heroes like Julio Argentina Roca and Carlos Pellegrini, Argentina became a beacon of the world and a point of arrival for millions of immigrants fleeing poverty and oppression in search of a promise of freedom.
100 years ago we were one of the richest countries on the planet, fighting equally with the United States in per capita income and competing as a life destination for millions who crossed the ocean behind the same promise that brought them to Philadelphia or New York. And yet, we throw all that overboard.
For a long time in our country we have asked ourselves over and over again, when did Argentina get screwed? We have the answer: precisely when we abandoned that legal and institutional architecture and went in the diametrically opposite direction, blinded by the false promises brought by the promoters of central planning.
Like many other nations, we retrace the path of freedom and travel that of tyranny and socialism. And this is none other than the silent advance of the State on individual rights, especially the sacred right to property. Thus, this path deepens the suffocating regulation, the taxes that punish those who produce, the subsidy culture that replaces merit with clientelism and indolence over effort.
In this way, an entire generation began to believe that freedom was an ideological whim and that true virtue was dependence, condemning us to a century of humiliation and destroying all the progress achieved during our golden years. For this reason, today I say that Argentina is a messenger of the dystopian future that awaits the West if it continues along the path it began to follow a few years ago, seduced by the siren song of stability and security against uncertainty and free market economics.
Unfortunately, giving in to this song is resigning the future to illusorily improve the present. A betrayal of our children whose cost they are already paying today. This phenomenon had already been anticipated by Benjamin Franklin when he said that those who would give up essential liberty to buy a little temporary security deserve neither liberty nor security.
But I bring you good news and that's why I'm here. The American dream is not dead. The world's promise of freedom is not dead. It is being reborn and it is being reborn in two places at the same time, in the United States, at the hands of President Trump, who is giving this nation back its essence, starting with the most important step, the will to become great again. And in Argentina, where 48 million Argentines chose to end a century of decadence and re-embrace the ideas that also knew how to lead us to greatness. We are not copying a foreign model, we are returning to our liberal roots.
The heart of our program is simple, giving back the freedom to Argentinians to direct their own lives. And that freedom is where we point all the guns of our government. Therefore, now let me explain to you what we have done in recent years and show you the results, because it is the factual demonstration that the model of freedom, which consists of nothing other than putting freedom at the center, works.
That is, when I came here in 2024 it was a lot of promises. Thank you for trusting, because today I am going to show you that today I bring you a lot of facts that freedom works.
The first myth that we broke when we came into administration was that a five-point Treasury adjustment could not be made over the course of a government. We, thanks to the enormous team of my Minister of Economy, Toto Caputo, put the accounts in order in the first month of government and we are going into the third year with the fiscal accounts in order. However, not all the problem was with the Treasury. Two-thirds of the problem was in the Central Bank, the quasi-fiscal deficit, which we corrected in 6 months. That is to say, in 6 months Argentina made a fiscal adjustment of 15 points of GDP and today it remains in balance.
Not only that, but unlike other governments, we are the first government to reduce foreign debt by 10 billion dollars. And if we correct for the instruments that adjust for inflation, Argentina has reduced its debt by nearly 50 billion dollars. Wow, we have become a serial payer.
If we take the debt-product ratio, the debt-product ratio went from 157% to a debt-product ratio of around 73%. And if we clean up the effect of what has to do with public intrasector debt, we go from levels of 99% to 39%.
Wow, we deserve to continue improving our credit rating and to continue lowering the country risk, because we are serial payers. At the same time, the counterpart of cleaning up public accounts and cleaning up the Central Bank had a direct correspondence. We managed to destroy the inflation rate, from levels around 300%, we have lowered it to levels of 30% and we are going to continue doing so. In fact, in a shorter view we can see that all the governments prior to us had been raising the inflation rate and we managed to bring it down sharply. Now that the political crisis has been corrected, from now on the demand for money is recovering and the inflation rate will continue to fall again.
At the same time, when we began this program of fiscal adjustment and monetary restriction, they said that we were going to plunge the economy into a brutal recession. And the result is that since we took office today, the economy has grown by close to 10%. Wow, the Keynesians lost by a landslide with us.
Another thing they said was that we were going to blow up the unemployment rate. However, what is seen is that the number of jobs in Argentina, since we took office, has increased by 113,000 jobs. Registered jobs have been left out, but what has to do with independent and unregistered jobs is close to 400,000 jobs. An economy that had not generated a single job for more than 10 years and we generated more than 400,000 in a context where we also fired 75,000 public employees. Wow, the ideas of freedom work.
Obviously, the regulations of the labor market meant that precisely what could expand was the informal sector of the economy. And, for that reason, in the month of February we managed to pass something that no government was able to do in 50 years, which was to pass the labor modernization law.
But look how interesting, because in the unregistered sector, the real salary is much higher than when we came to power. The registered one is practically the same in real terms and the one that fell was the public sector. That is to say, we made the state parasite pay the adjustment. But, in addition, they said that we were going to explode poverty and we managed to get out of poverty, poverty fell practically by half. That is, 14 million human beings came out of poverty and live better today thanks to liberalism.
On the other hand, they say that consumption was depressed. Well, like everywhere the press lies and Argentina not only has GDP at the highest level in recent times, but it also has consumption at its historical maximum level. What's more, they said that our program was going to destroy the external sector. A rather strange thing because exports do not stop growing and Argentina is the country of three times 100,000 million dollars. Exports that reach 100,000 million dollars, investments through the large investment regime for 100,000 million dollars and having made a fiscal adjustment that returned 100,000 million dollars to Argentinians. Wow, the ideas of freedom work.
On the other hand, they said that our program delayed the exchange rate and that they did not buy reserves. In this graph you can see the relative purchase of reserves compared to the rest of the governments that preceded us. Like it or not, our government is the government that has purchased the most reserves since the return of democracy.
Finally we have Argentina's exposure to this shock that is occurring in the Middle East and it caught us with fiscal balance and a current account surplus. Therefore, Argentina is one of the five countries that has a fiscal balance in the world, in the financial line and, in addition, it is one of the countries that has a surplus in the energy account. Therefore, in this world crisis, if Argentina had been as in the past, it would have led to a brutal crisis.
However, in Argentina the currency appreciated, despite the fact that the Central Bank bought 7,000 million dollars and the interest rate fell, the ideas of freedom do work. Therefore, we have a radical optimism regarding the future and a vocation to legislate to shelter and encourage development, not to control it, scare it away and clip its wings, because we firmly believe that we are proof that the legacy of the founding fathers works and we have our doors open for all those who want to come again to make America, but this time to stay.
Just as 100 years ago in the United States the mantra Go West prevailed, now the slogan will be “go south.” Exactly 2 years ago in this same room I invited you for the first time to bet on Argentina. Those who followed that advice saw their investments appreciate more than 100%. In the first year, I return today two years later, not to ask you for faith, but to show you the results. From what we are seeing in Argentina it is not a coincidence, it is the response to a century of state abuses. While the world regulates, raises taxes and reduces freedoms, Argentina does exactly the opposite and the United States is facing the same path.
This convergence between two sister republics reopens the possibility of a free trade agreement that should have been signed two decades ago and redefine the economic map of the hemisphere. Because that great experiment from 250 years ago, in its most authentic version, was never the exclusive property of Americans. It was a universal promise. Any country that embraces these principles can be prosperous. Today the American dream extends from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego to make all of America great again.
And we hope that this soon includes our beloved Cuba and Venezuela that have suffered so much and the model of freedom reaches the last refuge of the continent. Therefore, celebrating 250 years of the United States is not just celebrating a country, it is celebrating an idea and a promise. And as long as that idea is alive in at least one corner of the world, Western civilization has a future. 100 years ago, thousands of Europeans crossed the Atlantic looking for the promised land and found in Argentina and the United States a new home that allowed them to develop their life project with work and effort, knowing that the State would not stand in their way.
Today I once again invite all those who continue to believe in that dream to discover that the promise is still valid, that the border is still open and that at the end of South America a nation of 48 million brothers who share these values awaits them. Ready to receive them and build together the next chapter of the West. Once again I invite you to bet on Argentina, not to replace the American dream, but to make it bigger, to expand it throughout the Earth. Discurso del Presidente Javier Milei en la 29° Conferencia Anual del Instituto Milken en Los Ángeles PRESIDENTE.- Buenas tardes a todos. Quiero comenzar agradeciendo al Milken Institute, a todos los involucrados en la organización y personalmente a Michael Milken por hacer este encuentro posible una vez más. Es un placer estar nuevamente entre gente con la que comparto la misma forma de mirar el mundo. Y es una alegría especial encontrarnos en un año particular para esta nación que nos recibe. El año que Estados Unidos cumple 250 años de existencia. Un cuarto de milenio desde que un grupo de hombres libres, admiradores de la grandeza romana se animó a fundar la República más exitosa de la historia humana sobre una idea simple y por eso mismo revolucionaria. Esa idea fue la semilla del sueño americano. Contrario a lo que muchos podrían pensar hoy, Estados Unidos no se fundó bajo una promesa de bienestar garantizado ni un programa de redistribución de la riqueza. Era tan solo una potente afirmación filosófica que cada persona viene al mundo con derechos previos al Estado y que ningún rey, ningún funcionario ni ninguna mayoría circunstancial puede arrebatárselos. Veo que hay muchos partidarios del derecho natural. Estos derechos son pocos, pero no por eso pequeños. Son el derecho a la vida, la libertad y la propiedad. Y sabían que con esos derechos bajo el brazo cualquiera tenía una chance de prosperar, si aplicaba el suficiente empeño y tenía el suficiente mérito, sin importar quién fuera, sin importar de dónde viniera. Ellos sabían que con el tiempo la libertad y la movilidad del nuevo mundo triunfarían sobre el estancamiento del viejo mundo enfrascado en defender jerarquías nobiliarias sostenidas por modelos económicos rígidos y excluyentes. Esta idea revolucionaria invertía el orden milenario: por primera vez en la historia no era el ciudadano el que existía para servir al estado, sino el Estado el que existía para proteger los derechos del ciudadano. Ese era un nuevo fin, ese era su nuevo sentido y su nueva misión. Y si los traicionaba, dejaba ipso facto de ser legítimo. Y lo que vino después demostró el poder de esa inversión. La nación que tienen ustedes alrededor, la mayor experiencia de progreso humano que conoce la historia, la mayor potencia que alguna vez la humanidad haya visto. Yo creo que esta idea del sueño americano no se limitó únicamente a Estados Unidos, sino que se extendió por el continente, sin ir más lejos, tuvo un alumno ejemplar en Argentina, en lo que me gusta llamar la edad heroica de mi patria. Argentina recorrió un camino similar al de los Estados Unidos, aunque algunas décadas más tarde, de la mano de Juan Bautista Alberdi, un seguidor de Thomas Jefferson, mi país sentó las bases para la redacción de una constitución liberal, inspirándose en aquella firmada por la histórica Convención Constituyente encabezada por George Washington. Así como Jefferson establecía que un gobierno es mejor cuando gobierna menos, Alberdi se preguntaba, ¿qué exige la riqueza de parte de la ley para producirse y crearse? Y la respuesta era lo que Diógenes exigía de Alejandro, que no le haga sombra. Poco después, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, el Presidente que marcó el rumbo de la Argentina moderna, viajó hasta estas tierras a estudiar ese modelo de libertad. Con esa Constitución liberal de Alberdi, con un entramado jurídico institucional que establecía y protegía estos derechos y principios básicos, y con verdaderos héroes como Julio Argentina Roca y Carlos Pellegrini, la Argentina se convirtió en un faro del mundo y punto de llegada para millones de inmigrantes que huían de la pobreza y la opresión en busca de una promesa de libertad. Hace 100 años éramos uno de los países más ricos del planeta, peleándole de igual igual a Estados Unidos en ingreso per cápita y compitiendo como destino de vida para millones que cruzaban el océano detrás de la misma promesa que los traía a Philadelphia o a Nueva York. Y sin embargo, tiramos todo eso por la borda. Desde hace tiempo en nuestro país nos preguntamos una y otra vez, ¿cuándo se jodió la Argentina? Nosotros tenemos la respuesta: precisamente cuando abandonamos esa arquitectura jurídica e institucional y fuimos en la dirección diametralmente opuesta, cegadas por las falsas promesas que traían los impulsores de la planificación central. Al igual que otras muchas naciones, desandamos el camino de la libertad y transitamos el de la tiranía y del socialismo. Y este no es otro que el del avance silencioso del Estado sobre los derechos individuales, en especial el derecho sagrado a la propiedad. Así, este camino profundiza la regulación asfixiante, los impuestos que castigan al que produce, la cultura del subsidio que reemplaza el mérito por el clientelismo y la indolencia por sobre el esfuerzo. De esta manera, una generación entera empezó a creer que la libertad era un capricho ideológico y que la verdadera virtud era la dependencia, condenándonos a un siglo de humillación y echando por tierra todo el progreso alcanzado durante nuestros años dorados. Por eso, hoy digo que Argentina es un mensajero del futuro distópico que le espera a Occidente de seguir por el camino que comenzó a transitar hace algunos años, seducido por el canto de sirenas de estabilidad y seguridad contra la incertidumbre y la economía del libre mercado. Lamentablemente, ceder ante este canto es resignar el futuro para mejorar ilusoriamente el presente. Una traición a nuestros hijos cuyo costo ya están pagando hoy en día. Este fenómeno ya había sido anticipado por Benjamin Franklin cuando dijo que aquellos que renunciaran a la libertad esencial para comprar un poco de seguridad temporal no merecen ni libertad ni seguridad. Pero les traigo una buena noticia y por eso estoy acá. El sueño americano no está muerto. La promesa de libertad del mundo no está muerta. Está renaciendo y está renaciendo en dos lugares al mismo tiempo, en Estados Unidos, de la mano del Presidente Trump, que está devolviéndole a esta nación su esencia, comenzando por el paso más importante, la voluntad de volver a ser grandes. Y en Argentina, donde 48 millones de argentinos eligieron poner fin a un siglo de decadencia y volver a abrazar las ideas que a nosotros también supieron llevarnos a la grandeza. No estamos copiando un modelo extranjero, estamos volviendo a nuestras raíces liberales. El corazón de nuestro programa es simple, devolverle la libertad a los argentinos de dirigir sus propias vidas. Y esa libertad es a donde apuntamos todos los cañones de nuestro gobierno. Por eso, ahora permítanme explicarle qué hemos hecho durante los últimos años y mostrarle los resultados, porque es la demostración fáctica que el modelo de la libertad, que no consiste en otra cosa que poner la libertad en el centro, funciona. Esto es, cuando vine acá en el 2024 era un montón de promesas. Gracias por confiar, porque hoy les voy a mostrar que hoy les traigo un montón de hechos de que la libertad funciona. El primer mito que rompimos cuando llegamos a la administración fue que no se podía hacer un ajuste de cinco puntos del Tesoro a lo largo de un gobierno. Nosotros, gracias al enorme equipo de mi Ministro de economía, Toto Caputo, pusimos las cuentas en orden en el primer mes de gobierno y vamos para el tercer año con las cuentas fiscales en orden. Sin embargo, no todo el problema estaba en el Tesoro. Dos tercios del problema estaban en el Banco Central, el déficit cuasi fiscal, el cual lo corregimos en 6 meses. Es decir, que en 6 meses Argentina hizo un ajuste fiscal de 15 puntos del PIB y hoy sigue en equilibrio. No solo eso, sino que a diferencia de otros gobiernos, somos el primer gobierno que redujo la deuda externa en 10.000 millones de dólares. Y si corregimos por los instrumentos que se ajustan por inflación, Argentina ha bajado su deuda en cerca de 50.000 millones de dólares. Vaya que nos hemos convertido en un pagador serial. Si tomamos la relación deuda producto, la relación deuda producto pasó de un 157% a una relación deuda producto en torno del 73%. Y si limpiamos el efecto de lo que tiene que ver con la deuda de intrasector público, de niveles del 99% pasamos al 39%. Vaya, que nos merecemos que nos sigan mejorando la calificación crediticia y que siga bajando el riesgo país, porque somos pagadores seriales. Al mismo tiempo, la contraparte de sanear las cuentas públicas y sanear el Banco Central tuvo una correspondencia directa. Logramos destrozar la tasa de inflación, de niveles de entorno del 300%, la hemos bajado a niveles del 30% y vamos a seguir haciéndolo.De hecho, en una visión más corta podemos ver que todos los gobiernos previos a nosotros venían subiendo la tasa de inflación y nosotros logramos hacerla bajar bruscamente. Ya corregida la crisis política, de acá para adelante la demanda de dinero se está recuperando y la tasa de inflación va a volver a seguir cayendo. Al mismo tiempo, cuando iniciamos este programa de ajuste fiscal y de restricción monetaria, dijeron que íbamos a hundir a la economía en una brutal recesión. Y el resultado es que desde que asumimos a hoy, la economía ha crecido cerca de un 10%. Vaya que perdieron los keynesianos por goleada con nosotros. Otra cosa que dijeron es que íbamos a hacer volar la tasa de desempleo. Sin embargo, lo que se ve es que la cantidad de empleos en Argentina, desde que asumimos ha subido en 113.000 puestos de trabajo. Han quedado afuera los trabajos registrados, pero lo que tiene que ver con independientes y los no registrados son cerca de 400.000 puestos de trabajo. Una economía que hacía más de 10 años que no generaba un solo puesto de trabajo y nosotros generamos más de 400.000 en un contexto donde además echamos a 75.000 empleados públicos. Vaya que las ideas de la libertad funcionan. Obviamente, las regulaciones del mercado laboral hacía que justamente lo que se podía expandir era el sector informal de la economía. Y, por eso, en el mes de febrero logramos pasar algo que no logró hacer ningún gobierno en 50 años, que fue pasar la ley de modernización laboral. Pero miren qué interesante, porque el sector no registrado, el salario real está muy por encima de cuando nosotros llegamos al poder. El registrado está prácticamente igual en términos reales y el que cayó fue el sector público. Es decir, le hicimos pagar el ajuste al parásito estatal.Pero, además, decían que íbamos a hacer explotar la pobreza y logramos sacar de la pobreza la pobreza cayó prácticamente a la mitad. Es decir, salieron de la pobreza 14 millones de seres humanos, que viven mejor hoy gracias al liberalismo. Por otra parte, dicen que el consumo se deprimió. Bueno, como en todos lados la prensa miente y Argentina tiene no solo el PIB en el nivel más alto del último tiempo, sino que además tiene también el consumo en su nivel máximo histórico. Es más, dijeron que nuestro programa iba a destrozar el sector externo. Una cosa bastante rara porque las exportaciones no paran de crecer y Argentina es el país de tres veces 100. 000 millones de dólares. Exportaciones que llegan a 100.000 millones de dólares, inversiones por el régimen de grandes inversiones por 100.000 millones de dólares y haber hecho un ajuste fiscal que le devolvió a los argentinos de bien 100.000 millones de dólares. Vaya que funciona las ideas de la libertad. Por otra parte, decían que nuestro programa atrasaba el tipo de cambio y que no compraban reservas. En este gráfico pueden ver la compra relativa de reservas respecto al resto de los gobiernos que nos precedieron. Les guste o no les guste, nuestro gobierno es el gobierno que más reservas ha comprado desde el regreso de la democracia. Finalmente tenemos la exposición de Argentina frente a este shock que está ocurriendo en Medio Oriente y nos agarró con equilibrio fiscal y con superávit de cuenta corriente. Por lo tanto, Argentina es uno de los cinco países que tiene equilibrio fiscal en el mundo, en la línea financiera y, además, es uno de los países que tiene superávit en la cuenta energética. Por lo tanto, en esta crisis mundial, si Argentina hubiera estado como en el pasado, hubiera derivado en una brutal crisis. Sin embargo, en Argentina se apreció la moneda, a pesar de que el Banco Central compró 7,000 millones de dólares y cayó la tasa de interés, vaya que sí funcionan las ideas de la libertad. Por lo tanto, tenemos un optimismo radical respecto al futuro y una vocación de legislar para cobijar y fomentar el desarrollo, no para controlarlo, ahuyentarlo y cortar las alas, porque creemos firmemente en que somos la prueba de que el legado de los padres fundadores funciona y tenemos las puertas abiertas para todos aquellos que quieran venir nuevamente a hacer la América, pero esta vez para quedarse. Como hace 100 años en Estados Unidos imperaba el mantra Go West, ahora la consigna será “vayan al sur”. Hace exactamente 2 años en esta misma sala los invité por primera vez a apostar por Argentina. Aquellos que siguieron ese consejo vieron sus inversiones revalorizarse más de un 100%. En el primer año, vuelvo hoy dos años después, no a pedirle fe, sino a mostrarle los resultados. Por lo que estamos viendo en Argentina no es coincidencia, es la respuesta a un siglo de abusos estatales. Mientras el mundo regula, sube impuestos y reduce libertades, Argentina hace exactamente lo opuesto y Estados Unidos está encarando el mismo camino. Esta convergencia entre dos repúblicas hermanas reabre la posibilidad de un tratado de libre comercio que debería haberse firmado hace dos décadas y redefinir el mapa económico del hemisferio. Porque aquel gran experimento de hace 250 años en su versión más auténtica, nunca fue propiedad exclusiva de los norteamericanos. Fue una promesa universal. Cualquier país que abrace estos principios puede ser próspero. Hoy el sueño americano se extiende desde Alaska hasta Tierra del Fuego para ser grande a toda América nuevamente. Y esperamos que esto pronto incluya a nuestras queridas Cuba y Venezuela que tanto han sufrido y el modelo de la libertad llegue hasta el último refugio del continente. Por eso, celebrar 250 años de Estados Unidos no es solo celebrar un país, es celebrar una idea y una promesa. Y mientras esa idea esté viva en al menos un rincón del mundo, la civilización occidental tiene futuro. Hace 100 años, miles de europeos cruzaron el Atlántico buscando la tierra prometida y encontraron en Argentina y Estados Unidos un nuevo hogar que les permitió desarrollar su proyecto de vida con trabajo y esfuerzo, sabiendo que el Estado no se interpondría en su camino. Hoy vuelvo a invitar a todos aquellos que siguen creyendo en aquel sueño a descubrir que la promesa sigue vigente, que la frontera sigue abierta y que en el extremo de Sudamérica los espera una nación de 48 millones de hermanos que comparten estos valores. Dispuesta a recibirlos y a construir juntos el próximo capítulo de Occidente. Una vez más los invito a apostar por Argentina, no para reemplazar el sueño americano, sino para hacerlo más grande, para expandirlo por toda la Tierra. Citando aquel histórico sermón de John Winthrop, dirigido a los futuros habitantes de la colonia de la bahía de Massachusett. Queremos ser esa ciudad en la colonia con los ojos del mundo puestos sobre nosotros. Sabemos, sin embargo, que esas palabras constituyen a la vez un honor y una advertencia de no claudicar y de estar siempre a la altura de la misión que nos ha sido encomendada. Finalmente, quiero darles las gracias a todos. Que Dios bendiga a la Argentina y a los Estados Unidos y a toda América y a todo Occidente.
