Tren de Cercanías: Gobierno impulsa proyecto histórico de movilidad, desarrollo y recuperación patrimonial
At the end of the meeting, the advisory minister of the Civil Cabinet, Rodrigo Maluff, highlighted that the project is in a decisive stage and pointed out that the promulgation of the corresponding law would take place in the coming days. He also highlighted that the Commuter Train will benefit more than 40,000 passengers per day and will become a new axis of territorial development for the capital and the surrounding cities.
Key project for metropolitan mobility
During the meeting, the necessary actions for the execution of the initiative were analyzed, which is part of the comprehensive reform of the transportation system promoted by the Government.
In this context, the director of Strategic Projects of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, Amílcar Guillén, pointed out that the Commuter Train constitutes the central project of the transformation of urban mobility and will require close coordination between public institutions and municipalities involved.
He also indicated that the initiative is articulated with other strategic projects in development, including the elevated highway, the Digital District, the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, the reconversion of Artigas Avenue and the planned interventions in the surroundings of Parque Caballero.
Heritage, culture and sustainability
The Minister of Culture, Adriana Ortiz, highlighted that the project also represents an opportunity to value the national railway heritage. She recalled that the Carlos Antonio López railway network is part of the historical memory of Paraguay and announced that the first section will reach the historic Luque train station, where design and heritage recovery work is being carried out.
Likewise, he highlighted the progress in the restoration of the Areguá, Ypacaraí and San Salvador train stations, promoted through the Tekorenda Program.
For his part, the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Rolando de Barros Barreto, stressed that the Commuter Train will operate with electrical energy generated in the country, contributing to the reduction of emissions, the improvement of air quality and the promotion of a more sustainable transportation model for the metropolitan area.
The meeting made it possible to strengthen the inter-institutional coordination necessary to advance the execution of the project, considered one of the main commitments of the Government of Paraguay to improve mobility, promote urban development and raise the quality of life of thousands of citizens.

Patrimonio, cultura y sostenibilidad La ministra de Cultura,Adriana Ortiz, destacó que el proyecto representa también una oportunidad para poner en valor el patrimonio ferroviario nacional.Recordó que la red ferroviaria Carlos Antonio López forma parte de la memoria histórica del Paraguay y anunció que el primer tramo llegará hasta la histórica estación de tren de Luque, donde se desarrollan trabajos de diseño y recuperación patrimonial. Asimismo, resaltó los avances en la restauración de las estaciones de tren de Areguá, Ypacaraí y San Salvador, impulsadas mediante el Programa Tekorenda. Por su parte, el ministro del Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible,Rolando de Barros Barreto, subrayó que elTren de Cercanías funcionará con energía eléctrica generada en el país, contribuyendo a la reducción de emisiones, la mejora de la calidad del aire y la promoción de un modelo de transporte más sostenible para el área metropolitana. La reunión permitió fortalecer la coordinación interinstitucional necesaria para avanzar en la ejecución del proyecto, considerado una de las principales apuestas del Gobierno del Paraguay para mejorar la movilidad, impulsar el desarrollo urbano y elevar la calidad de vida de miles de ciudadanos.
