Ministro Orillac y director del Idaan verifican avances del proyecto de alcantarillado y planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales en David
The work will directly benefit more than 56 thousand inhabitants of the city and surrounding communities.
The Minister of the Presidency, Juan Carlos Orillac, and the executive director of the IDAAN, Antonio Tercero González, made a technical visit this Friday to the sanitary sewage and wastewater treatment project in the city of David, a priority work reactivated by instruction of the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, which will transform the sanitary, environmental and public health conditions of the Chirican capital.
During the tour, the authorities verified the progress of Work Groups 1 and 2 of the project, which record physical progress of 53% and 38%, respectively, and held a working meeting with the Chiriquí Technical Board and representatives of the contracting company SUEZ International S.A.S., in charge of presenting the current status of execution of the work.
The governor of Chiriquí, Aixa Santamaría, also participated in the tour; the president of the Provincial Council of Chiriquí, Guillermo Álvarez; the mayor of David, Joaquín de León and directors of the SUEZ company.
The project will directly benefit more than 56 thousand inhabitants of the city of David and surrounding communities through the construction of a modern Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), three pumping stations, more than 8,500 intra-household connections, 23 kilometers of sanitary sewers and 110 kilometers of secondary networks.
The initiative also contemplates five years of operation and maintenance of the system, guaranteeing its operation and sustainability once the works are completed.
Minister Orillac highlighted that the work is part of the strategic projects that the National Government maintains under permanent monitoring to guarantee its completion and implementation for the benefit of the population.
For his part, the director of IDAAN reiterated the institution's commitment to continue promoting the project with responsibility, transparency and inter-institutional coordination, with the aim of providing David with a modern health infrastructure, in line with its growth and future needs.
The work includes a complementary collector that will allow facilities with high social impact such as the Dr. Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital, the José Domingo de Obaldía Maternal and Child Hospital and the Autonomous University of Chiriquí to be incorporated into the health system, significantly expanding the benefits of the project.
Currently, work is progressing in the construction of secondary networks, sanitary sewers, intra-domiciliary connections, pumping stations and components of the treatment plant, infrastructure that will allow the wastewater generated in the city to be collected, transported, treated and properly disposed of.
Once completed, the system will contribute to reducing the pollution of rivers and streams, eliminating sources of pollution associated with septic systems, reducing risks to public health and strengthening the protection of the province's water resources.
Minister Orillac and the authorities also held a meeting with members of the Chiriquí Technical Board, in which a report was made on the progress that Idaan and the National Council for Sustainable Development (Conades) have made to improve the drinking water network in the province, as well as the projects in execution and to be started.
Before the members of the Technical Board, Minister Orillac reiterated President Mulino's will and commitment to bring drinking water to the entire country, and that the resumption of the sewerage and wastewater plant project in David is along those same lines.
Likewise, he invited the Board to give its support to Idaan and Conades in all the equipment and personnel necessary to promote short-term measures, such as drilling wells, which are solving many communities.
The visit is part of the monitoring that the National Government maintains on priority infrastructure projects, reaffirming its commitment to the execution of works that improve the quality of life of Panamanians and promote the sustainable development of communities.

Durante el recorrido, las autoridades verificaron los avances de los Grupos de Obras 1 y 2 del proyecto, que registran avances físicos de 53% y 38%, respectivamente, y sostuvieron una reunión de trabajo con la Junta Técnica de Chiriquí y representantes de la empresa contratista SUEZ International S.A.S., encargada de presentar el estado actual de ejecución de la obra. También participaron en el recorrido la gobernadora de Chiriquí, Aixa Santamaría; el presidente del Consejo Provincial de Chiriquí, Guillermo Álvarez; el alcalde de David, Joaquín de León y directivos de la empresa SUEZ. El proyecto beneficiará directamente a más de 56 mil habitantes de la ciudad de David y comunidades aledañas mediante la construcción de una moderna Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales (PTAR), tres estaciones de bombeo, más de 8,500 conexiones intradomiciliarias, 23 kilómetros de colectoras sanitarias y 110 kilómetros de redes secundarias. La iniciativa contempla además cinco años de operación y mantenimiento del sistema, garantizando su funcionamiento y sostenibilidad una vez concluidas las obras. El ministro Orillac destacó que la obra forma parte de los proyectos estratégicos que el Gobierno Nacional mantiene bajo seguimiento permanente para garantizar su culminación y puesta en funcionamiento en beneficio de la población. Por su parte, el director del IDAAN reiteró el compromiso de la institución de continuar impulsando el proyecto con responsabilidad, transparencia y coordinación interinstitucional, con el objetivo de dotar a David de una infraestructura sanitaria moderna, acorde con su crecimiento y necesidades futuras. La obra incluye una colectora complementaria que permitirá incorporar al sistema sanitario instalaciones de alto impacto social como el Hospital Regional Dr. Rafael Hernández, el Hospital Materno Infantil José Domingo de Obaldía y la Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí, ampliando de forma significa los beneficios del proyecto. Actualmente, los trabajos avanzan en la construcción de redes secundarias, colectoras sanitarias, conexiones intradomiciliarias, estaciones de bombeo y componentes de la planta de tratamiento, infraestructura que permitirá recolectar, transportar, tratar y disponer de manera adecuada las aguas residuales generadas en la ciudad. Una vez concluido, el sistema contribuirá a reducir la contaminación de ríos y quebradas, eliminar focos de contaminación asociados a sistemas sépticos, disminuir riesgos para la salud pública y fortalecer la protección de los recursos hídricos de la provincia. El ministro Orillac y las autoridades también sostuvieron una reunión con miembros de la Junta Técnica de Chiriquí, en la que se hizo un reporte sobre los avances que ha alcanzado el Idaan y el Consejo Nacional de Desarrollo Sostenible (Conades) para mejorar la red de agua potable en la provincia, así como los proyectos en ejecución y por iniciar. Ante los miembros de la Junta Técnica, el ministro Orillac reiteró la voluntad y compromiso del presidente Mulino de llevar agua potable a todo el país, y que la retoma del proyecto de alcantarillado y planta de aguas residuales en David va en esa misma línea. De igual forma, invitó a la Junta a dar su apoyo al Idaan y a Conades en todo el equipo y personal que sea necesario para impulsar medidas a corto plazo, tales como la perforación de pozos, que están resolviendo a muchas comunidades. La visita forma parte del seguimiento que el Gobierno Nacional mantiene sobre los proyectos de infraestructura prioritarios, reafirmando su compromiso con la ejecución de obras que mejoren la calidad de vida de los panameños y promuevan el desarrollo sostenible de las comunidades.
