Lanzan el primer programa de Técnico Superior en Riego Agrícola de República Dominicana
Santo Domingo.-The Executive Directorate of National Irrigation Technology (TNR) and the Community Higher Technical Institute (ITSC) formalized an inter-institutional cooperation agreement that will allow the implementation of the first Higher Technical Program in Agricultural Irrigation in the country, an initiative designed to strengthen specialized training in the agricultural sector and promote more efficient management of water resources.
The agreement was signed by the executive director of the TNR, Claudio Caamaño Vélez, and the rector of the ITSC, José Ramón Holguín, who highlighted the importance of joining efforts to respond to the demands of modern and sustainable agriculture in the Dominican Republic.
This new academic offer, approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), constitutes a transcendental step for national technical education, by becoming the first higher-level career focused exclusively on the training of specialists in agricultural irrigation systems.
During the event, Claudio Caamaño Vélez stated that the initiative will contribute significantly to strengthening the technical capabilities of the agricultural sector, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and the adoption of technologies that allow optimizing the use of water in agricultural production.
Likewise, he pointed out that the training of specialized human resources is essential to support the modernization processes that the Dominican countryside is experiencing, especially at times when efficient management of water resources has become a strategic priority to guarantee the sustainability of production.
For his part, José Ramón Holguín highlighted that the agreement represents a valuable opportunity to expand ITSC's academic offerings and strengthen practical learning spaces for students, aligning technical training with the real demands of the labor market and the national productive sector.
The higher technician in agricultural irrigation is scheduled to begin in September of this year, with the initial opening of two groups that will house between 60 and 75 students.
The creation of this career responds to the need to have specialized technicians in a key discipline for agricultural development. Although there are currently professionals linked to irrigation system installation companies, the country did not have a specific academic program that offered comprehensive training in this area.
Future graduates will be trained to design, install, operate and maintain agricultural irrigation systems, as well as to evaluate the water needs of crops, optimize water use and provide technical assistance to producers interested in incorporating modern technologies into their production processes.
With this alliance, theTNR and the ITSCreaaffirm their commitment to the formation of highly qualified human capital, technological innovation and the strengthening of national agriculture. The initiative will also contribute to expanding the country's technical agricultural area, boosting the productivity of the sector and guaranteeing more efficient and sustainable management of water resources.
Present at the signing ceremony of the agreement were, for TNR, Antonio Cabrera, legal officer; Pablo Grimaldi, from the Administrative and Financial Department; Jorge Soto, from Operations; Manuel Mejía, from Planning and Development, as well as Eriberto Tejada, in charge of the Extension and Training Division.
