Más de 11 mil personas recibirán su título en la graduación más grande de la historia de Costa Rica
11 thousand adults will receive their degree during the second BEE graduation, which will take place next Friday, December 13 at the National Stadium. With more than double the number of graduates than the first edition, this will be the largest graduation in the history of Costa Rica.
The Program, which was born in this administration through the Education Route, is recovering thousands of students who between 1988 and until 2019 left the classrooms for various reasons and were not able to complete their studies and obtain their high school degree.
The Minister of Education Anna Katharina Müller Castro highlighted the relevance of this program for a population that had found an obstacle to their personal and professional development: “We are not only contributing to recovering 16 thousand people who did not obtain their high school diploma, but we are giving them tools to access more and better opportunities.”
This free, virtual program is the product of joint work with the State Distance University (UNED), and covers four different modules, one per month, which consist of socio-emotional competencies and soft skills, digital competencies, project management competencies, and English competencies.
The Rector of the State Distance University, Rodrigo Arias Camacho, expressed his pleasure at the upcoming graduation: “People conclude their process to obtain the high school diploma in an agreement between the UNED and the Ministry of Public Education, where the importance of well-used distance education is materialized.”
This agile and accessible strategy adapts to the needs and time of a population that for decades could not achieve this goal. In the first graduation, held at the beginning of the year, five thousand graduates received their degrees, and in this second ceremony there will be 11 thousand graduates.
The initiative continues to attract more people from all corners of the country, the most recent registration period ended on November 17, and there are already 2,352 participants who will begin lessons in February 2025. The next registration period will be from February 3 to 23, 2025.
This initiative is part of the Brete strategy, whose objective is to improve the employability of people in the greatest conditions of exclusion from the labor market, promoting their access to job opportunities and boosting the country's productivity and competitiveness.
For his part, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Andrés Romero, said that "today we celebrate the effort and dedication of those who graduate from the Baccalaureate for Employability Program, an initiative that reflects the commitment of this administration to the development of skills for job insertion. This program is the result of joint work between allied entities that work within the framework of the National Employment System, evidencing how the union of efforts can transform lives and contribute to the construction of a country with more employment opportunities for everyone.”

11 mil personas adultas recibirán su título durante de la segunda graduación del BEE, que tendrá lugar el próximo viernes 13 de diciembre en el Estadio Nacional. Con más del doble de titulados que la primera edición, esta será la graduación más grande de la historia de Costa Rica. El Programa, que nació en esta administración mediante la Ruta de la Educación, está recuperando a miles de estudiantes que entre 1988 y hasta 2019 salieron de las aulas por diversas razones y no pudieron concluir sus estudios y obtener su título de bachillerato. La Ministra de Educación Anna Katharina Müller Castro resaltó la relevancia de este programa para una población que había encontrado un obstáculo para su desarrollo personal y laboral: “No solo estamos contribuyendo para recuperar a 16 mil personas que no obtuvieron su bachillerato, sino que estamos dándoles herramientas para acceder a más y mejores oportunidades”. Este Programa virtual y gratuito es producto de un trabajo en conjunto con la Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), abarca cuatro módulos distintos, uno por mes, que consisten en competencias socioemocionales y habilidades blandas, competencias digitales, competencias para gestionar proyectos y competencias en inglés. El Rector de la Universidad Estatal a Distancia, Rodrigo Arias Camacho, expresó su complacencia por la próxima graduación: “Las personas concluyen su proceso para obtener el bachillerato de secundaria en un convenio entre la UNED y el Ministerio de Educación Pública, donde se materializa la importancia de la educación a distancia bien utilizada”. Esta estrategia ágil y accesible se adapta a las necesidades y al tiempo de una población que por décadas no pudo alcanzar esta meta. En la primera graduación, celebrada a principio de año, recibieron su título cinco mil graduados, y en esta segunda ceremonia serán 11 mil los graduados. La iniciativa sigue atrayendo a más personas de todos los rincones del país, el 17 de noviembre finalizó el más reciente periodo de matrícula, y ya se cuenta con 2.352 participantes que comenzarán lecciones en febrero del 2025. El próximo periodo de matrícula será del 3 al 23 de febrero de 2025. Esta iniciativa forma parte de la estrategia Brete, cuyo objetivo es mejorar la empleabilidad de las personas en mayores condiciones de exclusión del mercado de trabajo, propiciando su acceso a las oportunidades laborales y el impulso de la productividad y competitividad del país. Por su parte el Ministro de Trabajo y Seguridad Social, Andrés Romero, expresó que “hoy celebramos el esfuerzo y la dedicación de quienes se gradúan del Programa Bachillerato para la Empleabilidad, una iniciativa que refleja el compromiso de esta administración con el desarrollo de competencias para la inserción laboral. Este programa, es el resultado del trabajo conjunto entre las entidades aliadas que trabajan en el marco del Sistema Nacional de Empleo, evidenciando cómo la unión de esfuerzos puede transformar vidas y contribuir a la construcción de un país con más oportunidades de empleo para todos”.
