The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Labour Organization (ILO), as well as issues related to advancing the principles of decent work and social justice and to strengthening social protection for the population.

Gilbert Houngbo praised the Uzbekistan delegation’s active participation in the conference and noted the results of reforms underway in the country in the fields of labor, employment, and social protection. The outcomes of the Better Work program in Uzbekistan, aimed at increasing the country’s attractiveness to leading international brands and investors, were also highlighted.

The parties confirmed their mutual interest in reaching an early agreement on the new Decent Work Country Programme for 2026-2030. The importance of opening an ILO Country Office in Tashkent was separately emphasized, as it would help strengthen institutional cooperation.

At the meeting, special attention was given to ensuring Uzbekistan’s full implementation of the ILO conventions it has ratified and to compliance with its international labor obligations. Uzbekistan’s growing role in advancing ILO initiatives at the regional level was noted. The country’s contribution to implementing international initiatives such as the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection and the Global Coalition for Social Justice was emphasized.

Confidence was expressed that strengthened cooperation would contribute to advancing international labor standards and Uzbekistan’s sustainable socio-economic development.
